Re: McCain's Underwhelming Acceptance Speech!
You guys need to be intellectually honest.
McCain never said the war will or should go on 100 years. How about some honesty. Benj |
Re: McCain's Underwhelming Acceptance Speech!
I too was disapointed not one word on the economy, or health care. I wanted to know what was going to be done!

Re: McCain's Underwhelming Acceptance Speech!
I guess it all depends where ones mind is when reading between the lines.
A perfect case of hearing what one wants to hear....believing what one wants to believe was said whether that was the intent of the speaker. Sorry to disappoint some of you but my mind does not travel at that level. When I accept Cassie's apology it means I meant all things she said. Sexism had absolutely nothing to do with my comment. Further, let there be no mistake if I were to say something sexist, let's just say there would be no doubt in any of your minds whether I did or not...it would be crystal clear and most assuredly offensive. It must be terrible going through life not knowing what people mean when they talk. I find it annoying when others try to say what they think I meant.....but I get over it quickly....usually :joke: BTK |
Re: McCain's Underwhelming Acceptance Speech!
BTK, Just curious. What did that sentence "Palin is far more entertaining and much better looking than any of them...based on the sights n' sound evaluation only!!!!!!!!!!!" really mean than? :dontknow:

Re: McCain's Underwhelming Acceptance Speech!
Chelsea;
See below my copy of the Cassie post from earlier in this thread: her perhaps comments should suffice. It should be clear when I said I accept her apology. To that I would add can't one say any she looks better than any he or another she meaning....dressed better? Nice grooming? Professional appearance? Brighter appearance....these would/could all qualify as "sight" designators. I would like to think "sounds" is pretty self explanatory, but then again I don't/can't read into things like some do. I also thought I was pretty clear advising if I had posted a sexist remark, there would be no mistaking it....I don't believe in inuendo. I don't listen to or give oblique messages. I guess I am just a little old fashioned....I say what I mean and I mean what I say....no second guessing....no hidden messages.....no interpretation required....usually! It is so much easier that way....usually!! Anyway here is Cassies' post: Bill: I apologize in advance if I am taking this comment the wrong way...but this seems (to me) rather sexist and shallow. Sights n sound evaluation? Better looking? More entertaining? Just doesn't hit me the right way.... If perhaps you meant to say that she "sounded" much more intelligent and sophisticated then some of her counter parts. If perhaps you meant "entertaining" because she said something so enlightening and thought provoking... If perhaps you meant that she "looks" like a strong willed, well qualified candidate for VP. Then I humbly apologize and do not think the comment was sexist and shallow. |
Re: McCain's Underwhelming Acceptance Speech!
I was asking for your thoughts, not Cassies. But, that's convenient. :dontknow:

Waiting For Someone To Mention
Unless I missed it, I have yet to hear either of the candidates or any of the pundits discuss the probability that many of these campaign promises--particularly John McCain's--could actually be enacted.
As I've mentioned here before, McCain can propose a laundry list of attractive proposals as long as he wishes. But with an increasingly heavy Democratic majority in both houses of Congress and a number of Republicans who might not be cooperative as the result of McCain's "maverick ways" in the past, it seems to me that few of McCain's proposals have much of a chance of enactment. Obama has a much better chance of delivering on his campaign promises. But the risk in his case is that some dumb or damaging legislation could be passed. If I knew for a fact that the influence of lobbyists would be reduced or eliminated in the incoming Congress, I might even feel comfortable that a majority of elected officials wouldn't actually do something stupid or damaging. I do think that they're smarter than that. But with the special interest lobbyists lurking close to the capitol, I keep thinking that anything could still happen. Members of Congress may be smart, but their collective character and morality still makes me nervous. But what isn't anyone discussing this? |
Re: McCain's Underwhelming Acceptance Speech!
Well KAHUANA...I have been trying...almost every post I make on Sen Obama I mention that he will have a Democratic congress at his disposal.
Yes....A President McCain would have more difficulty with passing many changes and that is a problem for sure. I suppose you have to weigh that when you vote ! I have said..will continue to say...I am not as much pro McCain as I am anti Obama...and again...has nothing to do with his character at all....I am sure he is a nice man...his background, training and choice of associates is just much too risky. |
