Did anyone attend the disco night last night? What did you think of the potluck?

There was some confusion about the "pot luck", in fact it wasn't a true pot luck.
We did do several pot lucks in the past where everyone shared dishes of food at one central buffet type table, there were several problems with that. The folks that were near the end of the line had almost nothing left to eat because too many folks ahead of them piled up their plates, leaving little for the last 30-50 people. The other issue was our volunteers were left cleaning up a big table. The entire process took a lot more time for all to wait on lines get their food and eat before the entertainment started. It was close to an hour for all this. We decided to try to do pot lucks at each table, no lines, cleaning much faster. We think calling it "pot luck" at the tables was confusing, it wasn't truly a pot luck now. So there are a couple of ways to proceed in the future skip bringing food. Issue with that is when things start at 6PM when do all members have a chance to eat before coming? Another issue that was mentioned is at some tables there were members not bringing food to share with 8 people sitting at each table. Not simple to make everyone satisfied. The board discussed this yesterday and will define how we plan to proceed at our next event in the clubs next email. That being each member or couple should bring enough food to share for 8 people. The board will be happy to listen to any suggestions to amplify this further. tks

Pot luck are easy. You buy couple plastic tablecloths from dollar store, women put their dishes on them and pick them up afterwards , you roll up tablecloth and throw away. We are confused if it didn't work out good last month, why repeat the table of 8 concept? Last month we didn't have 8 at our table, only 6 and I made a salad, the other couple brought crackers and the other dessert. We left starving which you should never do at potluck. Think we have to pass this month if its not a regular potluck ?

there were folks at the big potlucks that left staring also, if you were at the end of the line the folks ahead just gobbled food up.
We focus on entertainment having fun, food is secondary. We have had a much better response from our members doing it at the table, it is quicker giving us more time to enjoy the entertainment rather than waiting on line for 200 people to get food. Sorry you don't care for the way we are doing it. .

I have suggested this a few times, I hope this suggestion is heard. Why don't we do just appetizers? Enough to share with 8 people. Pigs in a blanket, cheese and crackers, small hero cut in serving size pieces, salad, chips/ dip, fruit salad just to name a few suggestions. As always, bring your own beverage. Do you think this would help alleviate the confusion? Just a thought and suggestion. Kathy

Pigs in a blanket.....
We're in Fl, why do they need a blanket? Seriously, that's an idea we can talk about, thanks for the suggestion.

The members brought enough, it's just the folks at the head of the line loaded up their plates with out thinking.
Gracie we have over 200-250 at most events, when you do a large buffet pot luck it takes 45-60 minutes to get the food out. Now it's 7:00, doing it at the table we're ready for entertainment to begin at 6:20. More time to have fun

NY always seems to have plenty of food also. I've never seen a problem at potlucks. Usually they are great! Just seems its easy If your friends with others at your table because then woman can coordinate easily. If not though it can be very awkward. Any possibility of eliminatng the food and we just bring our snacks as alot of clubs do?

I HAD to fun you a little, guys, We may not be able to recognize good Italian as one poster said, but we know how to bring a lot of food to share. Go Ohio!
P.S. AND your club is a lot bigger than ours. But not better.

I did last time by bringing a salad but others didn't bring much at all so we left hungry. We have never had any problems with potlots before but that is when everyone shares. Since I don't know 3 other women to coordinate dinner for 6 to 8 , we'll unfortunately have to stop going would love to go but just can't figure out how to do this

So you don't have any time to cook, but you still want potlucks, which would mean you would have to cook.
