We have just installed a partial birdcage cover to provide some much-needed shade. This is the type that is mounted over top of the birdcage to provide some shade. We noticed almost immediately creatures were joining us overtop - between the screen of the birdcage and the cover. A frog, a lizard, etc.

Is this normal? I'm not too keen on going out and sitting underneath all of that wildlife, especially if they populate. It seems to me that it should seal somehow or otherwise when it rains it could get a little crazy, as things try to take cover.

I'm going to ask the installer today but I wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.

Have had our BC covered for 4 yrs and have never seen a creature between the screen and he cover.

Okay so this tells me that this probably isn't normal and that they need to seal it better.

We have had a large (9x30') Sunbrella cover from Sunshine Awnings for about 3 years.

The canvas is stretched to square metal tubing and fastened to the cage frame on all sides.

Never had a "critter" problem under the cover.

who installed it? Did you check other users first?

We had 50% sun reduction screening installed on our birdcage, you can notice the difference. They have 25%, 50%, and 75%. We chose this as we still wanted the airflow of screening.

We haven't considered an awning top because of the very strong winds that can suddenly pop up around here.

We have had a couple of rains after a long dry spell and find the pool and deck area are laden with teeny, tiny, iddy biddy bugs, some still alive and well. There were so many a week or so ago that it shut down our pool filter. They obviously all fell through the screen ceiling. Anybody else have this happen?

Yep this year and last...seasonal flying ants. We have researched and researched and there is nothing you can do. They swarm this time of year trying to mate, land on top of the BC and once it rains pushes all of them into the pool. Very frustrating. We have talked to pool people and pest people and I guess we just have to live with it. My husband has spent hours cleaning these ants out of the pool. I thought about putting a cover over the BC but heard they were very expensive...

We have not seen these bugs at all (village of Pinellas), but we have the heavier (50% sun reduction) screening in the roof area of our birdcage. It may be possible that the denser screening blocks these bugs.

You should look into the birdcage covers again. They just improved the wind resistance factor. We are looking forward to sitting outside in the shade in the middle of the day and also we can sit outside now when it's raining. (Obviously not if there is thunder!) LOL

Sunshine Awnings just did ours and the bulk of them here in The Villages. They get the county permit and inspections as well. We had a bit of a hiccup, but they handled it professionally. We love the new cover.

Oh yes! These bugs are a pain to clean but past couple of days seem to be less and less.

And thanks for the info re: the little flying ants. I just discovered them floating together in the pool this morning and was puzzled!
