Question Cleaning out the closet. . .Where to go with clothes?

Are there local places to drop off clothing to help those in need in our area?

There's a spot behind or next to the Wildwood Fire Station & Post Office on 301 that's open the 2nd & 4th Mondays. That's where I bring all my clothes. They're VERY thankful as are the people who shop there.

We just donated some of our clothes to a black church in Hawthorne (just north of Ocala) and they were able to get them to the truly needy. We are friends with the CHurch leader and her husband who are totally committed to their ministry to the poor in our area. If anyone has clothes or anything else to donate to this church, please PM me and I will be happy to pick them up and deliver to the church in Hawthorne.

The Villages Regional Hospital thrift shop in Lady Lake on 441/27 or First Baptist Church Thrift Shop in Leesburg, Habitat for Humanity both of Wildwood or Leesburg. The hospice here has a thrift shop too. Just depends on where your heart and desire is to donate.

I don't give to Goodwill. That is a for profit. They take your stuff and sell it. Salvation Army is who I give my stuff too. Call them, they will pick up. I just gave them a bag of stuff yesterday. They have trucks in this area on a regular basis.

Aren't we lucky we have closets to clean out and an abundance of clothes.

It is NOT a for-profit. That's a rumor that has been circulated for years, which is not true.

Goodwill Industries International earns $4.4 billion revenue per year, and spends about 82 cents of every dollar on programs and services for people in need. Here in Southwest Florida, approximately 87% of the revenue earned is spent on our mission services. This is a very healthy number in the nonprofit world, and a solid indicator of commitment to good stewardship of your donations.

Goodwill Industries International is not a business that takes in donated items and resells them for a profit. It is a not-for-profit organization that provides job training, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people who have disabilities, lack education or job experience, or face employment challenges. Goodwill raises money for their programs through a chain of thrift stores which also operate as non-profits.

Check your facts.
