Once you comedown here and start attending clubs in which you are interested, you will hundreds of people with the same interests.
Even by just going to the pools you will meet plenty of people.
I find that 90% of the people wave or nod when I drive by in my golf cart or on my bicycle. sure there are some that don'd some people are not all that friendly, but I would guess that the America's Friendliest Home Town motto is pretty close to being true.
Just look at all the people you are meeting on this forum. There are many opportunities to meet them in person as well.
One thing that you shouldn't be concerned about down here is meeting new people and making friends.
