Actually, the Eagles, the Allman Brothers, Derek and the Dominoes, the Cars and Steely Dan were all in the 70s.
One of the problems with a list like this is that a lot of bands were successful over multiple eras. For example, Led Zepplin was formed in the late 60s and continued to produce great music through 1980.
