Does anyone know if and where we can get a 2012 gas club car ready to use replacement ignition key? Might sound silly but we lost ours and have no way to start the cart TIA

All kinds of new ignition switches available online. Pretty hard to find a key unless it’s a fleet cart.

Most of the Autoparts store carry universal ignition switches which are uniquely keyed (prevents theft), cost under $20, and typically fit in the existing hole in the golf cart. I have installed these on several Yamaha golf carts and club should be very similar. NOTE: the las t several on these I bought came with 4 keys in the package.

Club car gas key switch hook ups are different than other makes. Yes, you can start to hack the cart up to get it to work, but I highly recommend to just do it right and buy an OEM key switch

Carts and Clubs changes out the Yamaha ignition switch on their new carts with something that supposedly has more diverse key possibilities. Would you consider that hacking up a cart ? |

So, what did the Club Car dealer on 441 say when you told them about your situation?

Ill explain. First the OP only lost their key, there is no reason to deviate away from the factory switch and start cutting wires, rule number one, avoid cutting into a factory harness. But lets say they wanted to cut cost and the ol " just get it to work" Then a cheaper switch and get it to work right? Then yes, install the 20 dollar switch and cut some wires up. Could depend on the individual, do they want cheap and done wrong, or quaility work using quality parts?. Both types exist in the villages and its important to know the type they are. Question becomes, do you know how many factory key switches we change out due to failure? None, they all are that good. Can't say that about the aftermarket ones that have been added. Now i know someone is going to say " ive had my aftermarket key switch for 20 years and its never failed" Great. Ill continue, the biggest killer of a golf car? The people that work on them. Have noticed in the last 2 years customers are realizing you just can't let anyone work on your golf car anymore. They have become more complicated and one of the biggest issues in this industry, which has been going on for a number of years, is mis-diagnosing. Customers being told they need a $1200 repair, when in reality its a $160 dollar fix, is more common than you would think. Anyway, I have rambled along too much, I hope all of you had a great weekend. Good carting! |

But make sure you realize the charge for pick up and drop off is $80 EACH way. We've bought from them for years. A few months ago we ordered a new CC. It worked perfectly the first couple days, then we backed out into the street and it quit. Would not go at all despite a full tank. Called them to report this since it was not even a week old. They responded immediately, came the next morning to pick it up. We had asked all the questions about the warranted before we order the cart and felt very confident. What we did NOT REALIZE was we were presented with a bill of $160, the price they charge to pick up and return the brand new cart (about 3-4 miles). Obviously we did not ask the right questions when told it was completely warranted.... LESSON LEARNED. Nothing was volunteered about all was covered EXCEPT pick up and return. Just seems like a cart that quit in less than a week should be no additional charges, but, realize Club Car would not cover that. So CLARIFY so no surprises, might expect $200-$300 for new starter etc. then find additional $160. Some mechanics can do it at your home to eliminate the transport costs !
