Have you had any good/bad experience of using 6v Duracell deep cycle batteries ($85 at Sam's Club)?

They cost a lot less than Trojan, but you have to instal them yourself.

Lead acid batteries are lead acid batteries--the most important thing o remember about batteries are the following:

1) battery connections
2) add nothing but "distilled water" not purified or filtered water

3) And use a highly regulated battery charger

4) clean the tops of your batteries with a mixture of baking soda & distilled water, flush with distilled water

I would also suggest comparing the Duracell amp hours with the Trojans and other batteries. The more amp hours the more miles you can go between charges. In The Villages you need all the distance you can get out of your cart. That is why a lot of 4 12v systems have changed over to 6 8v.

Thank you, Allegiance. My ParCar currently uses 8 6v Trojans, but I shall compare the dimensions of the Duracell batteries to make sure that they will fit the tray.

Caution: The batteries may fit the tray, but may not clear the seat when you put the seat down. I had this problem with a parcar. Even if the seat goes down, if the battery is just touching it, you may seat body. I had this happen. The acid from the batteries reacted with the seat/battery enclosure material and caused it to expand and cracked the exterior finish, almost a hole through the enclosure. There may be virtually no difference in a single battery dimensions, but the smallest difference multiplied by four can be a problem.

Batteries are not batteries- its whats on the inside that counts. Some are not built as well as others. There is a reason the batteries are cheaper.
No need to use baking soda....straight water to clean the tops off every month.
Not running your batteries down to dead is important. The problem here in the villages is, the batteries get run down below the recommended depth of charge. The cart will run perfectly normal at this level, so people just keep going. Wounds the battery set. There is more than just putting water in and charging them up. Proper care of the rest of the cart is just as important to making a set of batteries last long.

I have attached a comparison chart of Duracell v Trojan

Duracell has a much shorter warranty but, apart from that, looks very similar.

If I decide to go with Trojan, who is the best person in TV to use, and how much would they charge to instal 8 x 6v?
