Default To buy or not to buy...

...a new gas-powered Yamaha from Discount Golf Cart World (DGCW) instead of from our "hometown" dealer or any other local dealer?

That is my question to fellow TOTVers.

Basics: DGCW admits up front that they are not an authorized yamaha dealer. Should that be important to me, and if so why/how?

DGCW is selling fairly well-loaded, custom-painted 2011 for $6900, and 2012 for $7400. Those prices are well below our home town dealer, who happens to sell refurbished used yamahas at a price equal to/greater than that.

A review of some previous TOTV threads regarding the general subject matter indicates that DGCW has received mixed reviews from you all; however, since I am buying a cart not seeking service, is there the same/similar risk in dealing with any local golf cart seller?

I ask that you please share your insights whether good/bad orhappy/sad.

MANY thanks.

George

We ordered our Yamaha gas cart from The Villages Golf Cars and yes, probably paid more than we could have gotten it elsewhere but we are told and believe that The Villages GC's will give us good service and come to us for any problems that we may have. This means a lot to us and we are willing to pay more for that assurance.

Take a short trip up to Carts and Clubs on 441 South of Ocala and get a price. They have the best enclosures, best prices, great service, and are an authorized dealer. They make there own custom enclosure that is worth any $$ difference. It is very tight in the winter and rain and is reenforced in all the right places. Go check you will be pleasantly surprised.

do you really want to be stuck with their poor service for the next 4 years? To have the warranty, you will have to go thru them. And did they tell you they put their own serial number on it? Red flags written all over this one.

Default Confused

We want to buy an electric golf cart and thought the new AC type batteries in EZ Go carts would be the way to go. Does anyone have any advice?

Star carts are made in China. I hear EZ Go has the best electric carts and Yamaha has the best gas carts. We bought our rebuilt gas Yamaha from TV Golf Car store and have been very happy with the customer service. They've done some things for us that were above and beyond.

The Villages Golf Car Store....

Great Service, help and just being there. I dropped by the LSL store because I had an LED taillight go out and a salesman dropped what he was doing, came outside and fixed the light, for free. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

EZ Go only has the 8 x 6 volt battery set up on their custom model. Allstar Golf Cars is right there on rte 441 near the Five Guys Burgers. If you don't at least look at the Star Car you're not really shopping.

We will definitely look at Star Car. How many miles on a charge in the electric Star Car?
It would be nice to have USA made...but, I don't know where EZ-GO is made and will have to check all this out.
Thank you.

The range on the 48 volt car is 60 miles ( which is the only way to go ) 8 x 6 volt, not 6 x 8 volt etc.

This is the link http://www.starelectricvehicles.com/

Their local number is 352-750-3246, Bob Schultz. I have friends who swear by their cart and the service received.

Those that talk of a " free light " from the LSL store should expect that kind of service because of the mark up they pay for it really in the end.

Default Ez-go information

http://www.ezgo.com/

Corporate website for information about EZ-GO carts.

Town & Country Golf Carts in La Grande Plaza next to Publix (352-753-9392) are in my opinion the best dealer for EZ-GO carts. They'll let you take one for a test drive. Believe me, once you drive one over the cart bridge that crosses Route 27/441 and experience how well it climbs hills like a mountain goat, you'll want one for your very own. A side note: we take ours back to them once a month where they check tire pressures and check/fill the water levels in the batteries for free. Always service with a smile. Sounds as if I'm writing an ad for them, but we could not be happier with our purchase (and I did a great deal of research before we chose them and EZ-GO).
