Maybe he meant that the golf cart limit is 20, too.

The officer told her that it is illegal to overtake a golf cart on these roads. He also stated that the speed limit on these roads are 20mph for cars and 22 mph for golf carts.
I was under the impression that a golf cart capable of travelling more than 20mph would be classed as a LSV. According to Florida Statute § 320.01(42), an LSV is any four-wheel vehicle with a top speed that can travel faster than 20 miles per hour but less than 25.
We have been in TV for over 20 years and have not come across this non-overtaking "law".
Is it possible the officer said and golf cart speed limit is 20 too

I actually thought the roads were made for cars! They should have the right of way on a road no matter what the speeds.

Parr Drive on the north side of Tall Trees is a street where we see cars pass carts many times a day. Some of Parr Drive is solid yellow lined but cars still go over the line and pass. Have seen some close calls with oncoming traffic or cars/carts coming out onto Parr from all the banks there. Keep your head on a swivel.

Default Don't pass a golf cart on the road

The point of this post was to educate people that it is illegal to pass a golf cart on a road without a dedicated golf cart lane. People do this every day. It is not safe and it is illegal. Period. It is illegal no matter what the speed. Stop doing it.

I doubt (don't know, haven't found it yet) that it is illegal to pass a golf cart on a road without a dedicated golf cart lane. That just doesn't make any sense. Would it also be illegal to pass a bicycle on a road without a dedicated bicycle lane? Would it be illegal to go around a stopped delivery truck?

If there is a law that a car cannot pass a cart then please post the link to it.

It is more likely that the officer was trying to explain that the speed limit was 20mph for both cars and carts and he assumed the car exceeded that in order to pass the cart. If the cart was traveling at 20mph then he was correct but if the cart was going less than that then he was wrong to assume the car was speeding.

They should watch West Boone, it has a double yellow line and people still pass golf carts. Even when the carts are going down hill.

Cars as well as lawn care, UPS, FedEx, and Mail trucks, cross double yellow on streets that carts are merging all the time.

Many times they are 2-3 car lengths and speed up to over take the cart, so they are not slowed down. Is it right, no, have seen many times where car ends up in path to oncoming car.

OP had a once in 20 year, stop by patrol car, passing a cart without cart path. Leos are few and far between, so speed, and passing on double yellow is a norm here.

Your original posting said ticket. Verbal warning is totally
Different and generally
Done to educate on laws.
Your posting becomes nonsense as you did not
Get a ticket.
Guess we should all
Find out about actual law as i am one who always pass slow carts on Oak Forest after making sure it is totally safe to do so.
