Would just like to hear some opinions from others that have gone through getting a new golf cart. We have a 2004 electric Club Car. We are now in the process of picking out a new Yamaha gas cart.

With the trade-in offer from TV golf cart store (just over $1,600), we've talked about selling the cart outright ourselves. Have no clue what the market is out there for a used cart. If you've sold a comparable older cart, did you do better than you would have by using it as a trade in?

Try selling it for 3 or 4 hundred more to be picked up on the date you get your new one. If it's in good shape and you have maintenance records, depending on battery age it should be worth $2000. Even if it needs new batteries, should be able to get $1800. Better a few hundred in your pocket then theirs. They will clean it up put new tires and batteries in it and ask $2900 for it.

I equate selling a used golf cart to selling a used car. If the dealer will give you a reasonable price on the trade-in why go through the hassle of buying an ad and sitting around until someone comes by and tries to talk you into a lower price.

If he is offering 1600 trade in I would take it.It is getting very difficult to sell electric carts.If you tried to sell it yourself you might save 2 or 3 hundred dollars,but will it be worth the aggrevation of people calling you, waiting for them to show up (some do not)trying to get the price down,, complaining if some thing went wrong with it,believe me trade it in and your headaches will be over with it.

In the end IMO it comes down to the real value of the cart, your willingness to put up with hassle and do not forget the advertising cost of the paper. I could be mistaken but I thought it was $70/week...

I guess at a minimum for peace of mind, I would call one of the people who advertise in the paper that "they will buy your cart no matter the condition". Obviously they will be a low ball number but will give you an idea.

As a reference, last winter I bought a private sale 2002 Club Car DS (reconditioned in '08) in excellent condition for $2050. It has three year old batteries which will be likely replaced in the fall.

If it is in good shape you could probably sell it on this forum for around $2,000. Send me details and a photo. I might be interested.

If they offer $1600 then you will need to clear $1712 to break even, not including your time. (it will cost you 7% sales tax credit on the trade in)

Maybe you should check with Ted up in Ocala, he would have a larger market for an electric cart. Tell him you need $1900, if he bites that will get you over $2000 for your cart.
