Default handicapped golf cart parking

Are you allowed to park a golf cart in a handicapped space meant for cars, if you have the hang tag?

It's worth noting that the tag applies to the person with the handicap and not the vehicle.

I wouldn't leave a tag hanging in an "unguarded" open golf cart. They apparently have a habit of walking away. My neighbor lost 2 of them in less than 4 months. Such is life in today's world!

Jim, that is worrisome, but how can you park there if you don't display the tag? Do they make some kind of permanent tag or sticker you can get for carts?

I don't know if a sticker exists. Our neighbor now just parks her cart in regular spots and only uses the handicap tag in her locked-up car.

Someone once told me a handicap tag only is valid if displayed on a licensed motor vehicle. If that is true, then a golf cart would only qualify if it is a LSV and have a license plate. I agree with a previous poster the tag is only valid for the person who owns the handicap tag.

You can get two handicap cards for one person. We put one in the golf cart and taped it to the windshield, with lots of tape, to prevent it from "blowing" away.

great idea...we have only been using it in our car just because we were afraid of that "wind". Thanks

Seems to me that those handicap accessible parking places at grocery stores, etc should be for motorized vehicles only. We have to use a ramp to get a wheelchair out of our van, and so often, there are golf carts parking in the handicapped places. So we just park way out in the parking lot and use 2 parking places. That's the only way we can get our son out of the van.
