Can anyone expound on the insurance requirements for a rental property with a golf car included. I've been told driver information is required for each renter, to being told that companies won't insure the golf car if renters will be using it. I'm most concerned about my liability if a renter should have an accident or cause injury. Thanks!

in my opinion, the owner of the golf cart is liable for anything that happens no matter who is using it. Some protection may be had if the user has a good liability policy. I doubt you will find an insurer of the cart for non-owner users. My advice don't let others use your cart, or have a separate bullet-proof golf cart lease signed by the renter placing them liable.

It is really hard to do. Some say Allstate will insure renters using a golf cart, but I would be careful and make sure you have coverage. I finally gave up and formed an LLC and transferred ownership of my carts to the LLC. Than I have renters sign a separate agreement with the LLC for the cart. Still not perfect, but safer than any other way.

Probably not cost effective for a single property, but better than other options.

We recently rented our home for the month of March and included the golf cart. Our insurance is with Progressive and we were able to add the renters on our policy with the stipulation in the rental contract that the golf cart was not part of the agreement.
There are very few companies that offer this option. We use Thomas Insurance in Fruitland Park and have been very, very happy with their help with this as well as any other issue with insurance.

We use Thomas Insurance. The guests complete a form asking their name, address, birth date, license number, and if there were any moving violations. The form is submitted to the insurance company and they are added to our policy during their tenancy. They do not get the keys to the golf cart until we have documents from the insurance company they have been added.

Our contract with the guest has an addendum listing the deductible and what the consequences are if they are in an accident while using the golf cart. The addendum is signed by the guest. Would this hold up in court? We have no idea and hope we never have to put it to the test. It simply gives us peace of mind when strangers are tearing around The Villages using our cart.

Thomas Insurance is not the insurer. They are independent agents that sell several different companies. I believe Progressive is one of the few companies that offer this coverage. Thomas sells Progressive.

You are correct, Thomas Insurance is a Broker.
