My cockatiel (6 years old this month) is sitting on my shoulder. He had been grooming himself, but then he started opening his mouth, sticking (what I think is) his tongue out, and ending in a yawn, all while closing his eyes. He did this repeatedly for five minutes. I've never seen him do this before. I couldn't tell if maybe he got something stuck in his throat or is just tired.
He didn't go to sleep, though, and now he's nattering away, running through his words and whistles. This is our first talking bird. Any ideas what he was doing? Humorous responses gratefully accepted--as long as they're not nasty! |

Go to the Marian Market. They sell all kinds of birds there. I'm sure you'll get your answer there! ![]()

Does he have water available? Might be thirsty?

He's a Villager. Probably thought it was happy hour & wanted to quench his thirst.

If you google it, it says he may be bringing up food from his crop, or if it is extreme, may have a respiratory condition

Thanks, everyone. I especially love the happy hour suggestion, Bonny!
This little guy is going to love TV. He loooooves to be outside in the summer in MI, but I'm always afraid a hawk will swoop down on his cage, so we won't let him out on the deck alone. With a lanai we will be able to bring him outside more. So we'll have a hot, hairy dog and a really happy bird. |
