Our rescue was contacted by a vet's office some time back. There was a little dachshund that had been brought to them to be euthanized. He was trying to protect his family from a bear and was left paralyzed. The family kept him for awhile, but couldn't deal with taking care of him. So they decided to put him to sleep. That's when the vet's office contacted us.
He is a special little dog that doesn't realize his back end is paralyzed. He has a cart and drag bags. I saw a video of him running around with the other dogs at his foster mom's house and couldn't believe it. He was running around like there wasn't anything wrong him (even though he was in a cart). She says he prefers to use the drag bag (which protects him when he is dragging himself around). He is as cute as can be and loving. He does require a special person who is willing to express his bladder 3 times a day. I know most of you are very active and probably not interested in a dog in a wheelchair that needs a little extra care, but just in case there is someone out there that would love to be his parent I'm posting this. You can learn more about him at Meet Bernie (16-53), a Petfinder adoptable Dachshund Dog | Winter Park, FL He is also on our Facebook page called Florida Dachshund Rescue and he has his own Facebook page called Bernie the Brave. There is a family somewhere for Bernie. We just have to help them find him. |
