Default Chinese-made Dog Food and Treats

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has documented more than 5,600 cases of dogs that got sick eating jerky treats, most of which were made in China. Of those dogs, more than 1,000 died, according to the FDA. Of the dogs examined as part of the federal investigation into these Chinese pet treats, about six in 10 were found to have gastrointestinal or liver disease, and 30 percent suffered kidney or urinary disease.

Some pet food and treat companies have been reducing the number of Chinese-made products they offer and going toward American-made ones. They are reducing.....they should be totally doing away with anything Chinese-made.

Take a few minutes to e-mail, write, or phone some of the companies that offer Chinese-made pet food and treats to express your concerns and ask that they stop offering ALL Chinese-made products. Even the pet toys that are made in China are a concern. So contact them, too.

People will sit around and complain about Chinese-made products amongst their friends, but companies need to be aware of just how seriously pet owners take this issue.

Some of the American made treats contain ingredients from China. A few years back I contacted Milk Bone and they admitted that the treats contained minerals from China.

Making treats isn't that difficult and as a bonus you know exactly what's in them. Try giving real food, mine loves carrots and bones.

why would anybody buy treats or any other pet food made in China.

For the dogs it is just too easy to find good USA made products.

We do not buy any food stuffs of any kind that are from China no matter what.

It is next to impossible to find any kind of supplement/vitamin that isn't made in China. Many of the pet foods that contain additives of this sort have hidden ingredients made in China because that's where the additives come from.

We feed Nature's Logic, a kibble that has no added supplements or rice ingredients (which can contain arsenic). It is a total nutrition food. The ingredients come from US, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Europe. They also require that their vendors can guarantee that the ingredients do not come from China, and that they are tested to be GMO-free and contain no chemical preservatives, herbicides, or insecticides.

There is so little waste produced by this food, that elimination is very compact. Sorry, TMI. But hubs can bag it without ing. Nature's Logic -

How true about avoiding anything from China. I see more and more people in the pet aisle at the store reading labels to see if products are from China. If I see someone buying a chew toy or something that I know is made in China I will mention it to them.

I have gone as far as call a company to ask if any of their ingredients came from China and then I tell them I will not buy anything from China. Sometimes you don't have a choice on some things you buy, but avoiding as much as you can from China is the rule in our house.

You don't realize how much stuff comes from there. Buying something Made In America doesn't mean what you think it does....it can be made here with foreign ingredients. I think we need to make more of our own products with our own ingredients. It seems like the majority of things we buy come from a foreign country.....medicine from India, for example. My DH says....What are we going to do one day when some country gets mad at us and we need parts for our tanks, for example? Well, that's off topic, but you get the idea.

I agree with your concept, however, apparently much is purchased or the stores wouldn't stock it for long. It's sort of a "pain" to shop anymore.

I try my best to buy healthy for my pets AND me. I definitely avoid anything from China, Thailand etc. I look at everything I buy. Now, I see that Nabisco graham crackers are made in Mexico! What is going on!!

You all need to try carrots, bonus you can always find your dogs orange poop. (Not good if you sneak into the neighbors yard-LOL).
