What kind of ear infection is this for? One of my girls has always had ear 'issues'. She had a few meds when she was younger but she seems to always be scratching her ears even though the vet says they are fine.

You can usually determine if your dog has an ear infection just by smelling the inside of the ear. If it smells foul, it is not good news. Also you can use a Q-tip to clean the inside of the ear canal to inspect it. The vet will give you an ear wash solution to apply several times a day and, after cleaning and drying, an ointment to apply inside the ear canal. The usual cause of dog ear infections is dampness and hair inside the ear canal. Best to dry the inside of the ear after bathing and remove the inside hairs with a tweezer.

The vet says her ears 'smell' fine so I'm leaning towards allergies and will probably be having her tested. I feed a premium grain free dog food, they don't get table food except for a bite of a fruit or veggie once in a while and a scrambled egg on Sundays and I don't use chemicals. We've done some food trials to try and isolate what she may be allergic to but that isn't the easiest thing to accomplish. |

Dog Food Safety Scores
Itchy ears, or discharge from ears, itchy feet, bumps or itchy skin, dull thin coat are all signs of food allergies in dogs. Usually, the "allergy" is due to poor nutrition. Most people don't realize that the dog food they give their best buddy from the grocery store is causing health problems. Dog food commercials are so well done, it's hard to tell a poor quality food from a high quality food. Good example is Beneful. Great commercials but horrible, terrible food. There are two pet food stores in TV that sell high quality food. The food is a bit higher than grocery store dog food, but you will save money in the long run because you won't have a dog with cancerous growths, hormone problems, seizures, etc. You get the picture...I'd rather put my money into healthy food and have a healthy dog than pay a vet to treat an unhealthy suffering pet.
No, I don't sell dog food, nor do I have any ownership interests in pet food stores. Simply, I just love dogs. Click on the link below to see a previous post that rates the safety of dog foods. If you don't want to score your own food first, just skip to the bottom of the post and you will find foods that have already been rated: Safe & Nutritious Dog Food

I love Pet Meds. They send me little e-mails saying "How is Biggins doing on his Revolution". "How is Lolli Pop doing with her ear infection". I know they are computer generated. But it seems as if someone really cares! Brilliant marketing. Lollipop had a persistent ear infection so I went to Paws at Laurel Manor. $140 later, and they recommended just what I'd been doing with my Pet Meds.
