Default Doggie Doors

We have a door from our lanai to outside and are considering putting a doggie door there. Has anyone installed a doggie door, and if so what brand. We are considering Lowes which sells doors with doggie doors already built in.

We have 2, for our cats, one that fit in the sliders, and one that was just built into the lanai enclosure, both of these were available from Lowes, but were purchased there, these were picked up from neighbors that no longer needed them. If you have a real door (wood, metal, fiberglass) these are not hard to install if you have the correct tools, IF you have a GLASS slider or similar door, you can NOT install a doggie door in the slider, you can buy a panel that can be inserted in the slider track, and they work well. You can also purchase supplemental locks to keep others out of your house.
Now a word of caution, we only let out pets out to the lanai or enclosed birdcage, we would never let them out to an open area, too many predators in the area.

We also have dog doors. Like Villagetinker we have the glass panel in our sliding glass door, you can get these at Lowes, Home Depot, many pet stores, and of course Amazon. Amazon will have the best selection and only takes 2 or so days to get. The slider dog door goes out to our lanai/pool deck, and we have a second from the pool deck to the back yard (we have a CYV). Before we moved in we had T&D install the second one in the lanai going to the back yard, 3 years later when T&D built our pool, we had a new one (same as previous) installed in the birdcage. We have Golden Retrievers so we're not too worried about predators, but if you have a smaller dog or cats, as Villagetinker cautions, be very cautious as there are many birds of prey in the area. If you live in the newer areas between the turnpike and SR44 be extra cautious because there are lots of alligators and other 4-footed predators coming out of the woods/wetlands. If you want one installed in your screened lanai, buy all means go to T&D and get them to install it.
