The asphalt is hotter than you know where. Dogs are on leashes panting away. I want to scoop these doggies up and hold them because their paws must be burning. Please owners, if you aren't sure if the pavement is too hot then walk barefoot yourself first and if it feels ok to you then.......

Yes, I saw them all over the Farmers' Market this morning-even though there were signs posted to remind them the temp of the asphalt is 160 degrees.

Actually, dogs' paws are much less sensitive to heat and cold then people's feet are. My dog had no problem on the hot Lake Michigan beach when I would be jumping up and down and grabbing for my sandals.
But I don't see any reason to walk a dog on sun-drenched pavement, especially smaller dogs. Pick them up or leave them home.

Last year someone posted their poor dogs feet that had horrible blistered paws after coming back from a walk..she wanted to warn pet lovers

The farmers' market in the square is one of those places. They don't belong there! It's like the owner is back in first grade with show and tell. The real fact is that most people really don't care what kind of dog you have or what it looks like! Leave your dog at home. Be considerate of the dog and others.

No worry they'll just place pooch in a shopping cart and go into Public's to cool his paws

Please leave your dogs at home. They do not ask to be taken to the squares where the ground is blistering hot, they are thirsty and hot and people trip over them. I wish dogs were banned from the squares. Yes, I am a dog owner & lover and I would not think to take her to the squares. She is comfortable in her air conditioned home, with food and water and her brother, the cat, by her side.

Shouldn't the health department have something to say about that? Even in restaurants, certain rules must be adhered to. Shouldn't the farmers markets have to apply for permits and follow health standards? That was a rhetorical question. NO DOG BASHING, PLEASE!!!!

But dog owners have to use common sense! Please don't take your dogs out anywhere when it is hot! Don't take your dogs to the Squares on Vendor nights or when Rocky is playing or when huge crowds are expected. Please don't ruin it for the rest of us. Most pet owners are responsible and respectful. I think we've taken our dogs to LSL twice in seven years, both times when it was cool, keeping them away from any crowded areas. But we cherish the privilege to take them to the Squares.

I'm quite sure most people take their dogs to public places to give them a little time out of the house and some socialization. I feel guilty leaving the little fellow at home so much, but it has never occurred to me that I am in any way "showing him off" when I take him out! We don't do dogs in the supermarkets here in the USA, but it's common practice in many countries.
Hopefully, we will all use common sense about the summer heat here in TV and certainly we can all use some tolerance of ideas a little different from our own. |
