Default Groomer and gratuity?

We are taking our pets to a different groomer than our pets have had for the last 25 years.

Do you tip the groomer? I can see it at a place like a pet grooming shop, but wonder about the groomer at the vet?

We have been using Tails Wagging with Laura for 4 years in Bellevue and she charges less than any place in TV. We only give her a tip at Christmas and she is thrilled.

Thanks, Nancy, I asked the question just before we had to pick up the dogs from the groomer, so I did not have your reply. I did discretely give the groomer something when she brought our dogs (two Yorkies), and she seemed to really appreciate it. This was done at a veterinarian hospital.

She did a great job and seemed to be very careful with Kate. Kate has a bad back and can make terrible noises if she thinks she is going to hurt.

I think it is good to tip the groomer, you are after all, trusting her with your precious pet. If the groomer does a good job, tipping is a way of showing your appreciation. We have
two Cavaliers and we tip double since it is double work.

I have always tipped groomers. My first yorkie had the same groomer for most of his 16 years. She had her own shop, but I still tipped her.

I used Laura of Tail Waggs for several years. She started out as a mobile groomer, then I took my yorkie to her at her home. I tipped her the same whether she was at my home or hers, even though she charged less at her home.

I now have a groomer that worked at a vet's office when I first started using her. She now comes to my home to groom my yorkie. I tipped her when she was at the vet's office, and I tip her the same now.

I figure if I tip my hairdresser, the yorkie's hairdresser deserves tipping also. BTW, at Christmas I always give an additional monetary gift in addition to the tip.

I've tried to groom my dogs. Groomers definitely earn their money and I definitely appreciate their services!

I take my two cats to a groomer in a vet's office and I always tip her. She does a beautiful lion's cut and although pricey (what vet's office isn't), I tip her $10 per cat.

I tip our groomer the same as I tip my hairdresser. I can't cut my hair and I sure can't cut our standard poodle. I"m much better behaved at the salon than she is !!!!!

Tip your groomer something between 10 - 20%.

That's not what she says after you leave...

I tip 20% for the groomer. Seriously, it takes two groomers to do my dog and when she hears our car pull up outside she gets so excited they have to call over the third. Once they had to have the guy outside shoveling snow come in and help. Now that they have caller ID I have to call from different friends houses to make the appointment.
uujudy, My hairdresser is lucky. I have really short hair and I ask if I may please use the ladies room. I don't pee on their shoes. (yet)

Default Tipping Groomers

Like in any service business tip accordingly as to how well you liked the job they did. Remember most groomers unless they own the business only get between 50-60% of what you are charged. The business gets the rest to cover ins. supplies and utilities etc. so figure if you pay $35 then the groomer usually only gets half. Unlike a hairdresser they can get but, deal with figgity pooches or ones that protest getting nail trims and having faces touched. A groomer cleans the eras and expresses their anal glands besides the shampoo cut and blow dry. Grooming school on an average costs 10K. Hope that helps.
I btw use the Groomers at The Village Veterinarian. After a bit of a turnaround they now have 2 great girls there that do a great job. I also use their great Vet services so it makes it very convenient.

Thumbs up groomer gratuity

I always give the groomer a gratuity...providing the service was good enough to deserve one...and regardless of where he/she does business. I use a mobile groomer and I tip her appropriately...

I have always tipped my groomer in New Jersey and do the same here. Generally I do ten percent but give a nice amount at Christmas.
