Default Low-level offenders earning community service credit for donating animal food

Just wanted to share something that I thought was a very unique idea. I just read something in the Leesburg newspaper "The Daily Commercial" dated Oct. 2. A probation specialist said she heard an animal shelter employee last year talking about how the animals were only getting feed once a day due to budget constraints. To make a long story short....pre-trial intervention low-level offenders can earn community service hours by donating animal food. The probation specialist said she had collected 49,151 pounds of food since Aug. 2011. What a great way to get food for the many animals the shelter takes in.
