I don't know about those brands, but I would recommend Purina EN only sold by vets. Paws has it. They are in the Laruel Manor medical complex off of Buena Vista.

I hate petco or Petsmart but if I have no choice how far are they?

I would think that Paws for a Moment in the plaza just across from Crispers would have Taste of the Wild or Whole Earth in the Spanish plains plaza on Bella Cruz beside Publix off El Camino Real. You could also order it online at doggiefood.com and there is free shipping if the order is over $49.

Petco is in the same shopping center as Target but on the south end of the strip. PetSmart is in the next shopping center south close to Bed, Bath and Beyond

The only dry dog food my Cairn would eat is Royal Canin. I went into a private pet shop looking for Royal Canin which they did not have. They talked me into a holistic food with no corn so I took it home to try as he was out of Royal Canin A few days later he was passing blood from his rectum so I took him to see his vet at Paws and she checked him over. Finding nothing wrong I told her about the abrupt change and why I changed. And she rolled her eyes and told me to gradually put him back on the Royal Canin so that is what I did. You just never know which way to go! At least here I am not an hour from a Royal Canin supplier like I was in NC.

We buy our dogfood at Paws for a Moment, located on CR 101 just north of CR 466. (Behind CVS, across the road from Southern Trace Plaza).

We have bought "Taste of the Wild" there. They also sell "Orijen" there, which is our favorite dogfood. Orijen has the best nutrition rating in the Internet comparisons that we've read.

( A.K.A....tidbits of useless information)

This INFO is ONLY personal knowledge. No scientific data to back it up.


1. Many, many years ago our long time VET inquired as to how we kept our dogs coats so shiny and healthy and how they seemed so active and alert.....We explained OUR dogs ONLY ate MEOW-MIX Cat Food....Within a year he told us that HE NOW fed his personal dogs Meow-mix. ( ... but asked us to keep it on the Down-Low since he sold high-end $$ Dog Food to his customers...)
NOTE: For the past 30 years, ALL our dogs and those of family members have been fed Meow-Mix or the equivalant Cat food.

2. Friend was a handler for a "Drug-Sniffer" dog. He kept her at his home.
We went out one day to get dog food for HIS Dog. When he grabbed several bags of Meow-Mix, I asked, "do you also have a cat ?". He replied " My Dog can't READ.....So I feed her Meow-Mix and she stays healthy and I don't need a grain shovel to lift her deposits from the lawn.

3. Youngest son adopted a retired German Shepherd male who previously was a Police Dog. (The previous handler was unable to keep the dog). He had to sign an agreement to feed the dog Meow-Mix, since that was what the Dog had ALWAYS been fed. Another stipulation required 1 level teaspoon of White Vinegar per gallon of drinking water to help quell the dogs rampant arthritis.

4. Rumor has it that a certain "Bomb-Sniffer" Dog only ate Meow-Mix. The dog checked out sites prior to the arrival of a U.S. V-P. Since the Dog worked for a Service that was kind of Secret, unable to disclose any additional data.

Check the analysis on the label. You might be surprised. IMHO, corn based dog food sometimes creates large lawn deposits and unhealthy working dogs. If one has a WORKING dog, perhaps cat food is a viable alternative. However, if the dog is a couch potato and an UNLUCKY dog with no where to run (i.e. The Villages based dogs) might be better to consult a VET, who does not sell high end dog food, before changing any feeding plan.

in Southern Trace was giving out free samples of Taste of the Wild this past Saturday, so I guess they sell it. Haven't tried it yet for our 14 yr old miniature poodle, who has always eaten dry dog food

I'm very surprised. I had no idea that Ace Hardware sold pet supplies. Especially high-end dog kibble. Good to know.

I attended a meeting years ago of RDO - Responsible Dog Owners. The woman presenting recommended Orijen, said it was the most nutritional, no fillers, etc. We've used it for years for our dogs. If we're travelling and can't find Orijen, we use Taste of the Wild, which is also excellent.

In 1992 I got a cat. At that time I thought most pet foods were equal. I fed my cat Iams from the supermarket and she lived for 20 years. So perhaps genetics is more important than food.

I have seen Blue Buffalo at Petsmart. Not fond of the store myself, but at least they carry the dog food.

Another vote for Paws for a Moment. One of our dogs has a very sensitive stomach. We use Nature's Choice: Sweet Potato and Fish. It's made in the USA.
