Default Post about how many days a year you leave your dog

So my wife and I like to travel. We cruise 4 times a year. Also about 15 more days of various places. The problem is she does not like to leave our fur baby. I dont either we both miss her. We do have an excellent sitter that loves her and takes great care of her. So we leave her about 40 days a year.

We have left our dogs a couple times a year for two-three weeks at a time. They both have their happy places, one at a farm and one with a friend she once spent three months with.
When we left longer than that at one time, we had an older dog that we took with us. But that was for 6-8 months at a time.
The most important thing for me is how happy they are at their "places." When we return, the one at the farm runs up to the gate, says Hi, thanks for stopping by, and runs back into the farm. The little beagle mix thinks my friend is her original owner, since she adopted and kept her for us when we were out of the country. So we're lucky with that.
But I do miss them, especially when we're traveling and see others with their dogs.

Almost never, often at the expense of my wife and I not being able to do things together. When we can’t drive to our Villages home and bring the dog, we take turns individually flying to our other home while the other stays behind with the dog. Also, there are many trips we would love to take that we don’t because of the dog. Our summer trips up north are limited to places where we can bring the dog, which makes finding both lodging and beaches we can go to very difficult. When we recently lost the last of our border collies, my preference would have been to go dog free. But when you marry someone who has been a dog trainer for most of her adult life that’s simply not an option. So we compromised and got a little 14 pound dog that can fly with us. The little fella got his wings last July when the three of us flew together for the first time to/from Orlando.
