Default Volunteers and Foster Homes For Dogs Wanted

For those that don't know, I am a volunteer with Florida Dachshund Rescue. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue. We are made up of volunteers and foster homes all over the state of Florida.

Unfortunately, sometimes we have to say "no" to people who are needing to re-home their dogs or "no" to a request to save a dachshund in a shelter because we don't have an opening in one of our foster homes. So we are looking for some more wonderful foster homes to help us save more lives.

If you would like to help us save lives, please consider fostering. Dogs that need to be re-homed are sometimes thought of as problem dogs and that is why they are in a shelter. Not the case. Owners pass away, owners have health issues, owners don't have the time for their dog anymore, etc. Many, many wonderful dogs need to be rescued. It is a rewarding job. A lot of people say I couldn't give up my foster dog. That happens sometimes and that is okay. But a lot of people tell themselves that it will be hard to let them go, but they know they are doing the right thing and by doing so it makes room for another life to be saved.

To foster you have to be approved first, then you just provide the food, shelter, and love. We take care of the vet bills, if there are any. You can still go golfing, you can still play Bingo, you can still go up on the Square at night.

Also, we need people in our area who would be willing to do home visits. Once an adoption application is worked, we put out a request to everyone that a home visit is needed. If it is in your area and you want to do it, you can volunteer to go the perspective adopter's home to meet them, chat, and make sure they live in an environment that would be safe. I have done home visits and it was so much fun getting to meet new people and hear their stories about their past pets.
