I have some jingle bells on a leather strap for Bentley, my Westie. Whenever he needs to go out he hits the bells. If we ignore him long enough he gets up on his back paws and hits the bells with both front paws to make it very clear he has to go out NOW.

Our Cavalier does the same thing. And he gets his point across.
