Default Taking your cat outside on a leash

Hi,

I was just on the general forum asking if you can take your pet with you on a lifestyle preview visit. I thought I would check here too. Also, our cat is leash trained. Can we take him for a walk outside in the street? I only ask because I did see where cats are suppose to be kept inside.

Thanks.

I have two cats. I started walking my younger cat on a leash when he was just a kitten so he is very use to it. Almost every evening I take him outside and we walk all around the house for about 20 minutes. He loves it and loves stalking the geckos. No one in the world should care if you walk your cat on your property.

I think it's all over the state of Florida, not just The Villages, that any domestic animal outside has to be on a leash. I could be wrong. If so, somebody correct me.

Thanks so much for the info. I bet you get some strange looks when you take your cat outside on a leash! I know we do. But, they love it and gives them a safe way to be outside. We have a condo in Palm Coast, florida and yes, he loves to chase those geckos too!!

Default They don't wanna do it.

We have two cats; Mikey, Harry and Hershey. I have told them about other people who take their cats out on a leash and I also told them how proud we are of both of them and would like to show them off.

I got the same response I always do when I enter into a serious conversation with them.............................................. ................

ARE YOU KIDDING?????

I hate to hijack a thread, but you might understand this story because you have cats.

Where we live up north, we have a pond behind our house. We're in a subdivision so there is a sidewalk around it and we see many walkers, joggers and bike riders.

One day I saw a young family of four with two animals. Dad was in the lead with a Labrador on a leash. Following him was a son on a bicycle with training wheels. Then there was Mom, who was pushing a stroller.

Next was the "family" member that I couldn't believe... their adult cat was following the whole group! It wasn't on a leash and was obediently following the rest of the family. It would occasionally be distracted by something and would stop to check it out. But it always stayed close to the rest of the family.

I laughed out loud and was absolutely amazed.

You can bring your cat to TV, but not on the trolley or to go and view model homes

Smile Never Heard of Such...But Saw It

Before we moved here, there was a guy who lived behind our house in an upstairs apartment above an insurance company. One evening when we were sitting out on the patio, the guy came out, leaned over the rail and whistled. I expected to see a dog, but no....his two cats came flying up the stairs. This was not just a one time occurrence, either....it was everyday.

Champion, we once had a cat that would follow us on walks. Interestingly enought he always stayed behind and would never forge ahead. He was content to follow and would look around but keep an eye on us. Cats are unique beings and a hoot to play with.
