Worried about my motor
I just bought an 08 Yamaha gas cart. It doesn't have high speed gears but the seller told me he has adjusted the governor "just a bit" to allow the cart to go about 17mph. I am worried the engine is being taxed too much and I will end up with a blown engine. Am I worried about nothing? Or if my fear is justified, what do you recommend?

Gears
That cart without gears should only go 15mph. If you force the engines RPM
by adjusting the governor it could certainly do damage to the engine. |

Thanks for the info
I appreciate the response. I know it "could" do damage. But what I want to know is if it is "likely". In other words, is it a maybe it will maybe it won't situation, and noone really knows, or is it a sure thing that I will blow the engine?

Engine
I will replace the word could to it will damage the engine.
That engine just uses a splash oil system in the crankcase and that does not do well after 2800 RPM. |

Thanks for the info
Thank you for confirming what I thought. I have an appt tomorrow morning with a Yamaha dealer to look at it and adjust it to where it is supposed to be. He also quoted me $500 to install high speed gears. Not sure if I will do that yet. I may just leave it at 15mph as the cart will be used primarily by my tenants.
