It depends in large part on who you are trying to convince that you are a Florida resident. For example, the tests for determining whether you are eligible for a Florida resident hunting or fishing license and for determining whether you are eligible for in state tuition at a public university are different. Generally speaking, if you intend to prove to any third party that you are a Florida resident you would want to at a minimum reside in Florida a majority of the year (more than six months), register to vote in Florida, obtain a Florida driver’s license, file a Declaration of Domicile in the official records of the county where you reside, transfer your church membership to a church in Florida, transfer your membership in any civic organization in which you participate to Florida, officially change your mailing address to Florida and apply for a real property homestead exemption in Florida. Please feel free to contact me at (352) 365-2262 to schedule an appointment to discuss your specific situation.
