Thanks Tom. |
The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to a two-year, $17 million deal with former New York Yankees catcher Russell Martin, sources told ESPN.
I found the news of Martin's signing on ESPN. Trust Tommy. I never tell a lie. |
YUP - I read it too. I was a bit surprised - I thought the Yanks were in negotiations with him.
Oh Well - Onward and (hopefully) Upward. |

I see no available catcher thats hits me in the face. Stay within. Hey, Pudge was 20 when he got to big leagues. He did alright. Romine can't make it if he doesn't get a chance. I remember when Yankee catcher Jake Gibbs retired early and I thought the Yankees were screwed. I said "Whose going to catch now? Thurman Munson?" At the time my comments were scary. Nobody knew much about Munson or if the Yankees could trust the pitching staff with such an inexperienced backstop. All that could be hoped for was that Munson would be able to hold the fort until another player became available in a trade. So much for my scouting talents.
|
I think they may try for A.J. Pirensynski, (spelled wrong), the White Sox catcher but they have said they wanted to be under the 189 Million salary cap. He would want a multi year deal and I don't know if they are go for that type of deal.
They have Francisco Cervelli who might hit for a slightly higher average than Martin but with limited power. I'm sure Cashman will be watching the waiver wire to see what becomes available. |
Don't like AJ. Not a fit for the Yankees. He was voted the most unpopular player in baseball, ahead of AROD. Don't need people with bad personalities on this club. Bad chemistry.

They signed someone last week. (Whitehurst?), and sent him down to the minors as he was also a light hitting catcher. Hopefully, they will find someone as Martin was one of the better options around. |
Thurman Munson
I just read a great article on the last moments of Thurman miunson's life.
Enjoy: 25 years later, Thurman Munson's last words remain a symbol of his life - NY Daily News |
Thurman played as hard as possible. He and George Brett were the best clutch hitters I have ever seen. Even though he died in the plane crash, I feel his catching days were over. His knees were shot. I am out the door so I will return and read the Munson story later. Thanks for sending
|
I know what they said but I doubt they will be able to stay under the $189 million limit they have set.
|
They don't want to pay the high luxury tax is the real reason because GOD knows they have a bushel full of monies especially from their YES Network.
They always spend what's necessary to get into the playoff but winning the World Series is another story. We'll see what happens in 2013. |

Looking for Third Baseman.
Chavez signs with the D-Backs. Keppinger close with signing to White Sox.
D-backs add Eric Chavez, Wil Nieves to bolster bench | MLB.com: News Will the Yankees land Youkilis? |
And so it goes . . .
Now A-Rod will be out until May or June so they need a 3rd baseman. I think (hope) Cashman will come up with a few surprises. God knows he needs them ! |
ARod had surgery in 09 on one hip and he came back with some bounce. After all he had a great world series. He was 33 back then. Now he's 37 and when he comes back from surgery in June he'll be closer to 38. That's 38 with two bad hips. Bad hips means slow bat. Slow bat means lots of K's. He should consider himself lucky to be standng after 5 years when his contract expires.

Possibly caused by using PED's. |
Third Base Resolved
The yankees signed Kevin Youlillis.
Yanks fill A-Rod void by inking Youkilis to $12 million, 1-year deal | Hit and Run - SI.com Third base is now resolved and now have to get Suzuki for right field and maybe a catcher is available? |
Uke is a gamer and a good man to have. Only question is his back. A good move but surprised it took 12 million to sign him. Ichiro is solid and my kind of player. I still feel grandy is going and Josh is on his way

Okay, it's time. On the count of three. . .1. . . 2. . . 3 -

Say It Ain't So MO
The Yankees closer and the greatest ever, Mo Rivera to announce his retirement this weekend.
This will be Mo's last year. A.70 ERA in playoffs and a 2.21 ERA in the regular season. We will never see another one like him. Thanks for all the great memories you have given us. GOD Bless and stay healthy. Mariano Rivera set to announce retirement from Yankees Saturday - NY Daily News |
As you know 2B he will be sorely missed.
The prob. with "my" Yankees is that they are getting old. Don't want to see them go through that process of getting older players to try to win NOW ! Yanks used to have one of the best farm systems in baseball. It then went downward. Can not honestly say that I know the shape it is in now. As in the previous years, we will be there (In the playoffs). Just not sure we can go all the way. Of course as a fan I KNOW we can. We shall see. LET'S GO YANKEES !!!! |

Who?

The greatest comedy routine ever. I marvel at how cleverly, it is written. :D A-Rod won't be on third for 2014 as the arbitor has ruled against him. He's only going to lose 24.5 million in salary. Off to Federal Court. What a mess!!! I think he deserves this suspension, as he has never been genuine with dealing with Jeter and other teamates so why would he tell the truth about his steriod use? That's why he had the nickname of A-Fraud. |
It looks like they are in big trouble. Are the little Steinbrenners trying to save all of Daddy's money?
