Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday removed Pete Rose, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and other deceased players from Major League Baseball's permanently ineligible list.
Rose died in 2024. Shoeless Joe died in 1951. |

So, the "permanently ineligible list" is now the "ineligible until deceased" list?

Sorry they should have stayed on the ineligible list. Some people will figure they can get away with all kinds of things now.

I guess the Hall of Fame can do whatever they want. But, I can't help but think that, if a player's career is deemed to be not eligible while alive, how does dying change anything?

I think that OJ’s conduct was far worse than Rose’s or Jackson’s conduct (betting v murder) but I still think OJ should be in the Football HOF. |

Setting aside the facts that Rose had sex with a young girl, was a serial adulterer, pathological liar, degenerate gambler, and raging narcissist, he bet on baseball and used corked bats, so he should never, ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Is that doing all of the above? Or just one of them? Your HOF is going to be quite small. |

Baseball HOF is based on on-field statistics and prowess, not cheating.
They should be in and will be in. Waiting until Rose died at least gives MLB HOF the satisfaction of him being unable to celebrate.
