Default Rose and Jackson into the Hall of Fame??

Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday removed Pete Rose, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and other deceased players from Major League Baseball's permanently ineligible list.

Rose died in 2024.
Shoeless Joe died in 1951.

So, does this mean that the "permanently ineligible list" is permanently ended? How can anyone ever by put on the list again, if it is not permanent?

Commissioner Rob Manfred announced that he had "concluded that permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual.”

A lot of people sentenced to life in prison have gotten out before they died.

So, the "permanently ineligible list" is now the "ineligible until deceased" list?

Sorry they should have stayed on the ineligible list. Some people will figure they can get away with all kinds of things now.

I guess the Hall of Fame can do whatever they want. But, I can't help but think that, if a player's career is deemed to be not eligible while alive, how does dying change anything?

Some of us think the mistake was banning them from the HOF. Does anybody really think that Rose or Jackson should not be in the HOF?

I think that OJ’s conduct was far worse than Rose’s or Jackson’s conduct (betting v murder) but I still think OJ should be in the Football HOF.

Setting aside the facts that Rose had sex with a young girl, was a serial adulterer, pathological liar, degenerate gambler, and raging narcissist, he bet on baseball and used corked bats, so he should never, ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

If it was a mistake, then why not just admit it instead of using death as an excuse to make him eligible for the Hall of Fame? What a cop out.

So anyone who committed adultery, lied, bet on their own team, and used corked bats should be banned from the HOF?

Is that doing all of the above? Or just one of them? Your HOF is going to be quite small.

Perhaps the HOF should designate an outdoor area for people whose numbers are impressive, but were tainted by their lack of conformity to their professional conduct, rules of the game, etc.

Pete Rose was one of the most despicable people who ever played Major League Baseball. He should be elected to the Hall of Shame.

Baseball HOF is based on on-field statistics and prowess, not cheating.

They should be in and will be in.

Waiting until Rose died at least gives MLB HOF the satisfaction of him being unable to celebrate.
