Played this morning.

Still has some top-dressing on the greens, but the course is look'n good.

Next week, the greens will be rolling a 12.

We'll see. It was deteriorating last week, from the condition it was in, earlier in the month. I don't think you'll ever see a Green in TV rolling any faster than 10-10.5. Too expensive to keep Greens that fast and it will slow play. 8.5-9.5 seems like their sweet spot.

In theory, everyplace should be getting better, given the weather. Laurel Valley at Palmer has improved dramatically, in the last 2 weeks.

Agree.

My statement was sarcasm.

Played this afternoon, green’s still rolled excellent despite topdressing and course was beautiful. Downhill and down grain puts only had to be put in motion and were almost impossible to stop without blowing well past the hole.

If your greens are good, refrain from blabbing about it.

Just finished playing Fox-Stirrup. I agree with the above except the greens aren't all that fast, probably 9.5-10. Southern Oaks greens are faster

Default Championship course tee time availability

That got me curious so I took a look at what was available three days out. Scrolling through, it looks like afternoon tee times are available most everywhere, and early enough for finishing before dark. Now, if I knew where that driver was going. . .

Respectfully, Unless playing a tour course the day before or after an event, not likely to have ever played any course that stimps at 12. Some private high end clubs run these speeds, but not many public courses(maybe Pebble, Beth Page Black for example)will. I have been involved in measuring green speeds(30+ year PGA Member). It is quite a process and 10.5 is very quick. I would venture a guess that the TV greens run between 8.5 to possibly a 10. Fastest greens i have played locally isn't a Villages course, It's Continental CC. Very fast, smooth and not a bad spot on them. Again my post is respectful and not calling anyone out.

If Greens in TV started running over 10.5, there may be a revolt by the players. Rounds would take 5 hours and Gimmes would be 6' and not the 3' they seem to be now.

I was a member at Fox Hollow for 6 years and Southern Hills Plantation for 5 years. Fox Hollow tried to be 10-10.5, Southern Hills about the same. They'd crank them to 11-11.5 for PGA/Korn Ferry Qualifying, but that was about the limit. As I'm sure you know, keeping Greens above 12, is ridiculously expensive. Probably an extra $7K-$10K per Green/year.

Couldn't agree more. There would be players 3,4 and 5 putting. Not to mention certain players (generally with 2 X chromosomes) insist on holing out everything when the round counts for nothing and they don't even have a GHIN handicap----I can see them hitting a 1-foot putt 8 feet by the hole. Even on tour, look at all the 4 putts at Augusta---Mark Hayes from 2 feet on #14 in 1974, more recently Ernie Els on #1. Pine Hills on Eastern Long Island had greens running 12.5 in the 1970's. My high school golf coach, who had made it to the round of 32 in the US Amateur and in today's terms probably had a handicap of +3.5, was the first golfer to hit the 609 yard 9th hole in 2( remember, PGA tour average driving distance back then was 256 yds), 6 feet above the hole (and between the legs of George Cosgrove who was the pro there). He apologized and Georger saw us in the clubhouse right after.. The conversation was:

George: Did you make the eagle?
Al: No
George: Well a tap in birdie on #9 is great also
Al: No
George: Well, OK, good old par
Al: No
George: What did you make?
Al: 11. Ball rolled 40 feet down the hill, the uphill put rolled back to my feet 7 times, but I had seen the line enough times that I sank my 9th putt.

So, if pros and top amateurs can have those disasters, what do you think would happen if greens here ran 12. I've played PGA National 1 week after the Honda and Copperhead 3 days after the Valspar. It's not pretty.
