Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Rocky and the Rollers were great, as usual. Wish you all could have been at LSL tonight.
|
Chat Anyone??? right now?...
Off TOPIC :cop: Is anyone interested in a daytime chat?? I am going into chat and staying until 11 or so. If you have a moment, stop in. The sun is shining and I am trying to do a little computer work, but was wondering what everyone is up to during the day. Some golf, some relax, some swim, go out for lunch, feed the birds? Now ON TOPIC :cop: ROCKY and ROLLERS... It was a great time indeed! Sam, I think you and your grand are having such a great time together!! She sure is a doll, full of personality! You are making such wonderful memories! Everyone is so nice and we do have a great time!
|
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Ronda, we're going to make more memories by taking her to Busch Gardens in 90+ degree heat. What a Grandparent won't do!!! If I survive, I hope to see you soon.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Three more days and my husband and I will no longer hear that sweet little voice saying"Grammy...Grammy..Grammy.." or "Granddad" for much of the day. It has been a wonderful three weeks but Gram is ready to go out and play with all the big people again.
It's funny, but as dear and good as grands can be, it is sort of tiring keeping them entertained for three weeks. As I write this, I know that three weeks after she has left, I will feel bereft. I will miss her so much. I will finally get over it and then I'll head north to see her and repeat the cycle. The love you feel for a grandchild never ceases to amaze me . It is a wonderful thing. You look into their faces and see expressions that their parent made as a child. It takes you back in time. I love being a "Gram". |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
I was sorry to see that today 10 people were hit by lightning in NJ and many lost their lives in rip currents off NY and NJ. Horrible.
|
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Wow!!!!!! The lightning is amazing today. It seems to be striking very close with huge rolling thunder. The storms here are something to behold. The rain is coming down so hard that I can scarcely see the lake. What a shame that we can't harness all that energy.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
I wonder what would happen if everyone is TV put up the money for a wind farm and we had our own electric co-op. We sure seem to get plenty of wind. It would be interesting to explore how much power we would need, what we needed to produce it, historical wind data, how much it would cost, cost per home, etc. Anyone have any thoughts? I know there are lots of engineers out there.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
We have the high power line towers, why not have turbines on top?? I always wondered why we haven't harvested all the natural power available and studied these powers more. Good point Sam!!

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Sounds good Sam, let's put Sidney in charge

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
:agree: with all of you. However, I think we should be promoting not only wind power but solar power, too.
Not sure if many of you are familiar with Germany and its energy policy. Read this Wikipedia article...very interesting. If Germany can do it, why can't we? Makes you wonder, doesn't it, about our government? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewab...rgy_in_Germany |

I didn't know that Rok....
So...why isn't it promoted more....advertised more....with incentives? |

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
As I prepare the sad task of organizing my departure (in 2 short weeks) from The Villages on my trek northward to Michigan for my last year of teaching before retirement next June...please let me say...
I thank God for the friendships I have heartfully been blessed to establish, the extended families I have been most graciously welcomed into, and for the opportunities to form new bonds among TOTVers. And, I can't neglect to say....Vetman....can you hear me? 1rnfl It's been a wonderful summer voyage here in The Villages... |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
...and there's no way we want you to leave. :'(

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
T. Boone Pickens thinks wind power is the way to go. If it's good enough for T Boone, it's good enough for me. ;) Seriously...engineers and financial people, let's brainstorm on this.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Oh Bright, I was hoping our paths would cross before you left TV.
Will miss not seeing you. I can understand your feelings. HB |

Seriously, has anyone seen "Living with Ed"? < http://www.livingwithed.net/ > I love that show! Short description: The show has some great ideas that "regular" people can do to save energy and make energy. Ed Begley is married to Rochelle and lives down the street from Bill Nye (the Science Guy). Ed & Bill are always competing to see who can come up with the best "green" additions to their houses. For example, Ed rides a bike to make energy to power his toaster. Bill designed a mop to dust the solar panels on his roof. Meanwhile, Rochelle (the lovely wife) hates anything that doesn't look good, so there's some tension that keeps the show interesting. Back to the topic: :cop: Ed installed a small wind turbine on his house. It's compact and looks sort of like a can on a stick. It doesn't have blades, like the large windmills do, and it seemed to be very quiet. Maybe the architectural committee would approve the use of individual small wind turbines? :dontknow: |

This whole wind thing interests me a lot. GE is into it. Maybe it could help the stock, too. But more importantly, something, somebody has to guide our beloved nation through this. We have to get out of the think tanks and into reality. Soon. Really soon. I googled around and found this little video just now. I just may have to add ol' T. Boone to that list of men I shamelessly love from afar. You know, this discussion might need its own thread. I looked around a little and did not see one here yet. But I may have missed it. (I am trying not to look for too long at TOTV. ;D) Anyway, Here's T. Boone. . . (And feel free to tote this little video into a different thread titled specifically if anybody wants to.) Interesting. Thanks, Sam. http://www.pickensplan.com/ Boomer |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
This is a great thread,
why is it the only one showing under "Chatter's Talk: Happy or Sad" instead of General Villages Discussion? It's a hard thread to find here, though I see sam has started a similar thread on the General Discussion Board. Anyway, great topic, all. T Boone's the man |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
I'm missing an arm and a leg after my shopping spree today. I finally found the perfect quilt for one of my beds after looking all summer. It was like that wedding dress I was looking for a while back....cost didn't matter....cause when the right one hit me I would buy it regardless of whether it broke the bank or not. I wasn't as lucky this time...the quilt didn't cost only $12.99 like the dress. But if you average the two...oh well, I can manage with only one arm and leg.
Next, I'm flying to Kansas Friday with 3 little boys ages 2, 3, and 4. I made goodie bags for each one with special toys and treats to surprise them during the flight. Well, the truth be known, it's to keep them occupied, quiet, and in their seats! Also found a flat based, open bird feeder so my visiting Mourning Doves can finally perch and enjoy the seed. I'd been sprinkling it on the ground but since a little millet garden has sprouted I decided I'd better find a feeder that would accommodate them. Finally, I bought a lawn sprayer and filled it with white vinegar. Weeds...look out cause here I come! Millet garden...goodbye. It was a good day. |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
We should all be kids and be fortunate enough to have Bright make us a "goody bag". She fills them with the neatest things. Every item is special and purchased with a single person in mind. My granddaughter thinks Mrs Bright is a Goddess. Plus, she teaches third grade, so she is extra cool. I was told to hug Mrs Bright goodbye for her. So Bright, put your arms around yourself and hug hard. That's from Miss M. Hug yourself again. That's from me.

Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Thank you for being such a dear friend, Sam! I'm going to miss your granddaughter, too! At least I have the dolphin bracelet she gave me so I can keep her close until we meet again. (Pssst...please don't tell her, but I'm so glad I can now take it off...lol) |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
I'm sorry. You going back to Michigan is just wrong. Susan and Tom left and I haven't seen them since. I know Bare and Beady will return, thank goodness. Bright...take early retirement...Don't gooooo....and by the way, I'm not sure the dolphin bracelet was a great match for all your clothes. ;) LOL.
At least the little darling had a last great night @ LSL. Rokinronda danced with her!! |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
BRIGHT!!!! Will you visit during any school vacations?? Do we have to wait for your retirement to get you here forever? I enjoyed every minute you were around and look forward to your being here after your retirement!! BIG HUGS!!

Rok
I'll be back December 26-January 2. Then the first week of April will be my next trip here. June 2009 I'll be retired but think I'll spend the 2009 summer in Michigan so I can take advantage of the water that I have missed the past 3 summers. Come September 2009...I hope to be here for a long, long time. Ribbit, Ribbit. |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
I love saying hello to people, but I hate all of these good-byes! Enough already! Everyone stay here and have the kids come down. (sob sob sob) Another good friend gone until December. Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Just returned from a family reunion in Kansas over the weekend. There were close to 70 of us there. It was a whirlwind weekend flying from Florida to Kansas on Friday and returning today (Sunday).
What was so wonderful was my 3 toddler grandsons getting to know each other better. Can you imagine how wild a 2, 3, and 4 year old were for 2 days? They had adjoining rooms and could run between the two. And they did...nonstop! Bubba (Grandpa) and I (Tamma) watched them in the hotel convention center lobby for hours while their mommies and daddies had time for themselves. Those little boys have more energy than I ever had. They ran up and down the corridor, hid under tableclothed tables thinking we thought they were lost, and pretended they were the Incredible Hulk. Swimming with them was hilarious. The oldest would have nothing to do with jumping in the big pool, but the two youngest were daredevils. All 3 loved to get Tamma soaking wet and laughed with joy when her glasses were so wet she couldn't see. Those stinkers! It was a great weekend but I'm glad it's over. I'm exhausted! |
Re: Chatters Talk: Happy or Sad
Bright, I can tell from your posts about your family what a wonderful grandmother you are, and how much your kids and grandchildren treasure you! Lucky you, lucky them.
