Worked as operator in Baltimore from 1981 to 1989. Worked in real estate from 1989 until 2010. Retired. A few junior people left, but not many.

Default Bell system

Just retired after 35 years (started with NY Tel). NY still has 6,000+ party lines grandfathered.

Last time I was on a party line was at my grandma's house in rural Indiana in the late 50's (her number was two longs and a short).

Surprised that NY still has party lines!

Got an e-mail from the retiree advocate group that I belong to, and that appears to be a real possibility. The potential buyer has been identified, and this could happen in the not too distant future.

This is NOT good news for retirees from the Verizon landline business !

Default Bell System

Got rid of my Bell shaped head in 2000 after 30 yrs with Wisconsin Bell / Ameritech. Lots of jobs, free college education, plenty of nice people. Been selling real estate since then. Bought the TV lot hope to build by fall.

What about red rib ring right when talking about outside drops.
Also why run backwards you'l vomit when trying to remember the color codes. White red black yellow and violet.
And no number zero or letter O. It was ought.
I was a analog guy in a digital world and loved it.
Don't forget the bell system savings plan.
