You are all funny. USOC is still current...at least it was 3 years ago. When I started on cordboard (5 years ago) I was doing ringdowns in Mexico and Canada or maybe calling a small town where there was one phone and when someone answered, you told them who the call was for and they would say, ok call back in an hour. They would run get the person and when we called back in an hour, they would answer the phone. when I left engineering I was installing vrads for Uverse. My how the world changes. Let me tell you a story one of my friendly techs did. He was doing an extensive repair and parked out front of his work loc his van was ticketed for expired meter. Got a $5 ticket. Police officer would not cancel it. so he goes to the bank, gets $5 worth of pennies and takes them out of the wrappers and inserts in envelope, adds that slimey stuff used to keep wires separated...we called it ticky tack but probably not the official name and dropped it into the "parking fine box". He gets a call....threatened with obstruction and banned from doing further repairs in that town. I laugh whenever I remember this. and that is what I learned in 34 years.

That was inappropriate, IMO. As cumbersome as they may be to deal with, pennies are legal currency.

Every once in a while, I get stuck in line at some store behind someone who pays with pennies. Annoying, but the cashiers cannot refuse to take them. It just takes so long to count them !

Default Offer

Rumor circulating an offer is coming because the company has a buyer for the landline side.

The landline side of the business bogs down the corporation. Upper management has a greater interest in the unregulated wireless portion.

In addition, the landline side is a maintenance headache, as we all know.

This kinda falls in with something I had heard about 3 years ago.

Default memories of Bell System

There was nothing like a PUC, DPU or PSC Complaint to remove all restrictions on overtime.

Remember these small parts of "The System", Nassau Smelting and Refining, Sandia Corp?

How about bifurcation and Modified Final Judgement?

John DeButts, one of the last real Bell System CEO's.
