I know there has to be one but I can't find it listed anywhere. Anyone know of when/where they meet?

We will be there chuckinca. We moved to MN from Clayton, CA. Tom is a 4th generation San Franciscan. I was out there for about 25 years. We still have a lot of family in Concord & Walnut Creek...actually all around the Bay. (sigh) I miss it so.

Susan, I used to live in Concord near on the Clayton border.
BTW -- I checked with the rec centers .... no California club. So, if we start one, are we making it all of California or just Northern or just the Bay Area? Such crucial decisions we have to make while living in TV.

My parents moved from Scottsdale, AZ to Rohnert Park, CA in 1986 with my help just before I took off for Minneapolis, MN to attend law school at the U of MN. They lived there up through 1996 or so with me in tow since December 1991 after I got kicked out of the law librarianship profession for complaining about the U of MN Law Library's tactic of putting my mental health in question when I brought up JUST my interest in being honest about my commitment to survivors' of crimes right to practical information in 1991.
In 1991, I wrote a bunch of law librarians, politicians, scholars, and others about how one should handle someone who talked about an interest in survivors of crimes rights to practical information-- this was based on my experiences following a murder on my birthday of February 24, 1976 of my then high school English teacher's daughter Michelle-- and only a couple like Robert Berring said I should be honest about this interest and its background. The others like the U of Chicago's Charles Ten Brink just kind of said keep quiet and rest on your fine resume at that time. The Law Librarian from Boalt Hall (U of CA, Berkeley), Robert Berring, was one of the few people who responded that I should be honest about a commitment and its background like this because as he said it is bound to come out sooner or later. That's unlike the initial reaction at the U of MN in February 1991. My supervisor Suzanne who was also a Graduate of the same Law School Class as I (1989) said I looked like a nut to talk about an interest in survivors rights based on practical experiences like mine with the investigation and media coverage of the double homicide surrounding the February 24, 1976 murder of Michelle and another lady. As you might imagine this February 24, 1976 murder was covered widely by the Northern Nevada press from February 25, 1976 at least through 1985. Kind of also hard to just forget something like that which also happened to occur on your birthday of February 24. The U of MN also while I was there (1986-1991) did not have much in the way of practical materials to help survivors of crimes who were looking for information about the justice system, agencies, people contacts, etc. The U of MN Law Library is probably one of the top ten largest university law libraries in the United States. Of course, I lost my employment references from the U of MN when I tried to fight back against this tactic of attacking the person through putting his mental health in question rather than addressing the niche in services towards survivors/victims of crimes in libraries. Still think this is a really dirty tactic of attacking the person rather than looking at the merits of what he or she is actually trying to write or do. This looks like something you would see a third rate divorce lawyer do in a nasty divorce case. My efforts in this area of helping crimes victims get access to practical information were based in the Sonoma County, CA area from late 1991 through mid-1996. Cannot say I had much success though in Northern California with getting practical materials for victims of crimes into libraries in that area. That's my story of how I ended up in the tow of my parents even though I have 4 degrees and had quite a lot of good experience in librarianship up through 1991. Incidentally, the U of MN Law Library did add some very useful links in the area of Criminal Law to their website a few MONTHS ago (around February 2008). http://local.law.umn.edu/library/sub...-web.html#Crim I do have a lot of baggage to bring to any club I will admit. |

Hi Red,
How nice for you to have the luxury of time. I love my job, but I am eager to retire and get to TV and do...whatever. I think it would be fun to start a CA club. Everyone from CA that I have noticed on this forum is from the East Bay...maybe we should make it that specific ![]() What are the rules of membership in a club like that? Personally I think it should include the whole state cause isn't Kathie from SoCal? I am shocked there isn't already a CA club and yet when you think about it Californians rarely leave...why should they?? And if they do, they generally stay on the western side of the Rockies. Question...did your daughter Jess go to high school at Clayton Valley? Our kids did for awhile. We have two, ages 23 and 26. Thought they may have crossed paths at some point. |

They were Chuck but only when they were little. We lived in Clayton on the other side on Concord from where you were/are in PH. Our son switched to football at about nine years old, wanted to be like his uncle and cousin who were pro. Our daughter is like her mother, totally not into sports...how did I end up in this family?

Susan, I moved to Pleasant Hill before I adopted Jess but I lived within walking distance of CVHS. She went to College Park.
CVHS has changed a lot. It is now heavy into the arts (even has its own academy within the school). Kids are now attending from all over the MDUSD. To get back on topic, there used to be a California Club but it disbanded. Haven't been able to find out why. And since Kathie is my sistah, it dun' mattah where she lives ... she belongs!

I believe there is a Californiua Club -- I read a notice in a paper about a month ago. The notice states the California Club meets at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at Hibiscus Rec Center and for information contact Norm or Janice Isbell at 750-2895. I haven't called them yet so not sure if the club is still going.
I'm from Southern California and moved to Pennecamp in April -- have met wonderful people so far but would love to catch up with some Callifornians! ![]() |

I thought there were actually two CA clubs at one point. In one club, most of the members were from the northern part of the state. When we visited TV for the first time in October of 2005, the first Villagers we talked with were from a town about 15 or so miles from our CA house... ![]()

Hello all of you Californians.
Our annual sock hop is just a few weeks away. We have a great entertainer DJ playing good music and even Karaoke if you wish. Dress in your favorite sock-hop clothes and prepare to have fun and dance the night away. If you don't dance much (like me) be prepared to have a great time and get to know more Californians. This is bring snacks for your table, we will have a dessert table and BYOB. You may have taken BYOB to your high school sock-hop, but I bet you were not supposed to. Tickets must be purchased by Monday, June 28th. Tickets are $5 per person. To get tickets email Norm or Janice Isbell at njisbell@comcast.net or call us at 750-2895 Thanks. Looking forward to seeing you at the Sock-Hop ![]() |
