Default Loonies & Toonies Canadian Club February Meeting

I've been asked to post the following reminder for fellow Canadians.

The next Loonies & Toonies Meeting will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2014 - 6:30 pm at La Hacienda Recreation Center in the Carmen Miranda Room. The Registration Desk opens at 5:30 pm. Please wear your name badges and bring your own snacks and beverages.

Our very special guests that evening will be;

Karl Loeper from WVLG Radio - Karl, who has gained a reputation as a world class meteorologist and radio personality, will come and speak to us about the major reason we all come here to spend all, or part, of our winter months. Karl speaks to between 12 and 20 club groups each year and has a great presentation lined up for us. He has confided to us that he loves Canada and even knew that the capital city of our great country is Ottawa.

Chuck Kirk - Branch manager of PNC Bank in Leesburg will also be joining us to discuss his role as chairman of the American Cancer Society, Leesburg / Fruitland Park region and relate to us some of the activities that are going on in our area to combat this terrible disease. He will also be bringing with him some very exiting prizes that we will be raffling off during the evening.

After the speakers have made their presentations, Just Mike will be on hand to get us up dancing. We also once again will be supporting the Wildwood Food Bank and the Shepard’s Lighthouse so please bring a non perishable food item within best before date and any used clothing or household items that could be given to local folks less fortunate than ourselves.

We will continue our sign up for the Baseball Game on April 1 in Tampa with the Toronto Blue Jays playing against the Tampa Bay Rays in a regular season game - we have about 12 tickets left - our other events [Golf Tournament and Hockey Game] at this time are sold out and but we will add you to the wait list if you wish.

Best wishes and looking forward to seeing you all

Pat and Dave
Your Club Executive

Hey, do I have to be Canadian, or can you certify me as a Toonie? Barefoot? I know I 'm not a real water fowl loon, but maybe I'm a toon? what is that anyway?

You're cute Kitty. A Loonie is our name for our $1 coin (we don't have one-dollar bills). The coin has a picture of a loon on it. And then when a $2 coin replaced our two-dollar paper money, with Canadian ingenuity and creativity, LOL, everyone called it a Toonie.
