Default Pictures not printing

Hi computer helpers.

I have an HP Pavilion dv9843c Notebook and HP Photosmart C4450 printer. Yesterday my printer decided to stop printing pictures. I can print Word documents with pictures in them, email with pictures, but I can't print JPEG pictures directly from my Picture file. The dialog box says it's printing, but nothing happens. When I try to cancel the printing, it says it's deleting, but it never does... it just hangs there spinnning and spinning.

I tried turning off the print spooler & turning it back on. I don't know what else to do, or why this suddenly happened. Until yesterday I've been able to print my pictures just fine.

Does anybody have any ideas?
Clueless Judy

Default Try this..

If the printer is not broken, a couple of things to try...

- Make sure when you get the print dialog box that your printer is the one selected. Some times settings get blown and it may be using the Image writing program to create a document not a print. It would act like it was printing. Other programs may be unaffected and set to print correctly.

- It settings are ok, unplug the printer and the PC for a minute or two. Printer will get recycled and default settings reapplied.
I have seen this work numerous times in my tech support job.

May just be broken printer!!!

Good luck.

Cool

If everything was working previously, I would reboot everything, before doing anything else. If that doesn't fix it, then you might have to dig deeper into applications and drivers.

Good Luck!

The operative words here are "for a minute or two."

Same thing has happened to me several times, though with different PC and printer.

Other than that, it might be a driver issue.

Sometimes things get "corrupted."

Best of luck with this.

Default heds up

Drivers would be the last thing I would suggest touching....right before buying new printer.

Judy indicates she is "clueless" re: PC's so that is no trivial task.

Suspecting drivers here would be down the list as things other than photos print fine.

Also these days I suggest new printer as cost is so low it often does not pay to bring them in for repair!!

Oh, I agree with your idea about not touching the drivers.

Printers might be inexpensive now, but something inside me hates to throw out otherwise good hardware. Depending on the PC or printer, perhaps a call to tech support would be in order. Maybe there is a local technical person who could help Judy out.

Thanks so much for all your good ideas.
I have houseguests, and you all know that this problem will take at least a day to fix -- for me, anyway. I will try your fixes as soon as I can do it without interruption and let you know what worked.

Thanks to all of your for your great ideas!
Still Clueless,
Judy

My pictures are printing today. I didn't have time to do anything differently. Now it won't scan a picture -- but the pictures on my computer are printing. Go figure.

Tell that to the HP 855cse that I bought in 1996. Still running after a cleaning every few years by a local computer shop. Not fancy, and just use it for short letters and my annual tax forms.

I'm sure that Judy's problem is something quirky, and once fixed, her printer should be fine. I wouldn't be too quick to dump it.

Whew! That's the ticket! Quirky! I like that.

I was dreading replacing this printer because...
#1 It is exactly the right size for the space I have
#2 What would I do with this printer if I bought a new one?
#3 When it does work, it works just fine
#4 I just bought two new 2-packs of both black and color ink

Maybe the quirkiness is caused by sunspots. I blame everything on sunspots.
Thanks for the hope RichieB

For reasons 1,3, and 4, it is worth a shot to get to the root of the problem. Been right there myself, so I know how you feel. As for #4, I still have a spare ink cartridge for my 15-year old HP printer. I am coming to the realization that the printer has got to be replaced; I've gooten just about all the use out of it that I can get. It's time........

Judy, you don't need hope, you need a little HELP.......

I there is someone local to you who can help you out.

Judy, you should check you computer for viruses. Some of them may cause this kind of issues.

It seems that the problem was not with the printer, but with the computer. Today it's the computer that's not working.

It's time to call in the professionals.
Does anybody have a recommendation for a computer repair person?
Thanks for your support,
Judy
