Default Activating audio on Skype

Our granddaughter is spending her spring quarter at the University of Salzburg and we want to communicate with her through Skype. We downloaded it and got the microsoft camera etc. at Sams and tested it on our daughter in Ohio this morning. We could hear and see her but she could only see us. I feel sure there is a microphone in the camera but there is no information on how to activate it.

Anyone know how to help get the audio going so we can chat with our sweet granddaughter?

Hi Gracie - The cameras don't have microphones in them, you also need to have a microphone on your computer. We have a seperate microphone for our desktop computer, and our laptop has a built in microphone. Check to see if you have an internal microphone on your computer, and make sure that it is set high enough to pick up your voices.

When you are on Skype with your daughter, you will see at the bottom of the screen their is an icon of a microphone. Click on it and make sure that it is set high enough to pick up your voices. Good Luck!

Gracie.... Some cameras DO have microphones. Especially the more expensive Logitech cameras. Just check to be sure the one you bought does have a microphone. If it does, there is a small icon on Skype that you might have to click. It looks like a little microphone and it might be muted. I have this happen to mine once in a while...

Skype is a great program!

Default Camera

Gracie I got mine at Sams it's a Phillips Camera. If you look on the front and see little screens under the lens that's the microphone. Do your sound check setup again and see if it works then.If your sound check works the other end may have the sound off on their computer. We've used ours since we got down here works great.

graciegirl, I just recently installed a logitech camera and getting familiar with skyping. My camera has a built in microphone and initially had some difficulty getting the audio to work properly. Thought at first that I must have done something wrong with the installation or that I had a faulty camera. I eventually started clicking on anything that looked like a mike as well as getting into any audio tabs. Not sure if I eventually straightened it out or if the pc decided to accept the camera... but everything started working correctly. Once in a while skype seems to be tempermental and I'm begining to think that is the norm. Good luck and enjoy video chatting with your granddaughter.
