I was going to send a long detailed note on my experience with AOL and their charging but rather I decided I would recommend that AOL users take a long and careful look at charges coming from AOL or companies with close or similar names.

I can't find anything that says AOL is going to start charging for their aol.com internet based email service. I have been using free AOL email for a long time. If they start charging for it, I will just switch to gmail. No big deal.

This is and continues to be a free version as well as a monthly cost version............I think ~$5/mth.

I have never seen the value-add of AOL. There are several free e-mail services such as yahoo and gmail. When asked, there are two recommendations I make. Don't use the e-mail service from your ISP because you may be forced to change e-mail addresses if you change your ISP. Choose gmail or yahoo or some other service that is independent of your ISP. The second is to use the IMAP protocol instead of POP.

AOL, it works, its free and like you I have been using it for a long time, maybe mid 90s? If that changes I will change to Gmail or something else.
