I had Quantum fiber installed and the installer couldn't get my chromebook or cellphone to print, they printed before,my wireless desktop prints.
The installer seemed limited in his ablity and knowledge,I called tech support finally to get the speed at near advertised speeds. My question is who can recommend someone to get my devices printing? TIA |

How were they setup before, did you use WPS, WiFi, was the name of the network and the password changed? Any of these can stop printers dead in their tracks. There are a couple of very good computer people on this site, hopefully they will reply.

With the new installation, the IP address of the printer has changed. The desktop may be connected using the name (not the IP), and that might be why it's working. Most likely, the printer set up in the chromebook and phone are pointing to the IP address of the printer... and since it is different, they can't print.'
You'll need to find the IP address of the printer now. You should be able to print out a printer configuration report at the printer and that should show the current IP. Once you have that, go to the printer setup on the chromebook and phone and enter in the new IP. This is the most common reason - there are others, but without knowing your network and printer specifics it would just be guessing. |

If your printer has a screen, click on the wifi icon to see what network it is connected to. If the network name is correct, you may need to enter the network password to connect the printer to the wifi network.

When changing the Wifi whether to Quantum, Spectrum or Xfinity, etc., most of the problems are with very old printers that have trouble connecting up to the newer WiFi equipment. In some cases, I've hard wired the printer where possible. Quantum has a device to fix this but in a lot of cases the printer is so old that it makes sense to just replace it since they are not very expensive. Also, remember, none of the techs from any of these internet providers are going to know about or spend the time troubleshooting all your devices in your home when changing your internet and Wi-fi. I had a referral in Bonita Villas where the Villager had many home automation device that took me a couple of hours to get running and I have a lot of experience with this type of work. So, first, whenever you chage your Wi-Fi equipment always try to use the same network name and password so most if not all your devices connect up and know that if you have a lot of wireless devices you have to take some responsibility to get them all reconnected or call someone like myself or other Villagers willing to help you get things conneced. Don't depend on the tech because their primary job is to provide the service and make sure you have good coverage and not spend hours troubleshooting your home eventhough some will spend some time helping as much as they can. When I'm involved in a Quantum install, my job is to make sure all the TVs, computers, cell phones, printer and the thermostat are all connected. Most of the time everything comes right up but you need to check all this. Finally, concerning connection speed. So far, i've never seen an install where the connection speed is wrong but it can happen. Remember, depending on your equipment, you need to hard wire to the system to get a true reading. Wireless will always be slightly slower and if you have an older device, it may not go to 1Gbs. But a hard reset of all the equipment usually solves the problem. So, for those thinking of switching to Quantum fiber, before you sign up, take a look at the following link or get me involved and you will have a flawless installation. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...670-post1.html Last edited by jrref; 04-11-2025 at 07:56 AM. |

For 1 thing, the ISP know nothing about your internal LAN. 2nd, 99% of people use the default routers wifi ssid’s which are different than your last wifi name(s). 3rd, you never use a printers ip, you use wifi to find it.
I’ve used the same ssid (yes only 1) for decades for both the 2.4 & 5ghz bands, so I don’t need to change anything. If you have 2 ssid’s, go into the router and setup 1 ssid for both bands to your old ssid name, reboot your printer and you should be fine. |
