Default ASUS laptop goes black

Good morning:

I purchased an ASUS laptop about a year ago. I like to use it to watch TV or movies in bed. It was fine for a while, now as soon as I start watching the screen goes black and will not come back on until I turn the laptop off. Does anyone have any ideas for me please.

Most computer repair places will charge a diagnostic fee. But, Office Depot on Rt 441 will diagnose a computer for free, and give you a price to fix it. It's worth a try.

If the screen is ok for everything else except when watching a tv feed then the most likely thing is that the software is forcing the display into an output resolution that the laptop screen cannot display. There are a couple of things to look at. Are there any video settings that you can change in the app? Is there a different version you can try?
Try the windows key and the down arrow. Try the windows key and the up arrow. Try the windows key and D.
When the screen goes off, press ALT and f4 at the same time to exit the app. Try pressing f11 to break out of full screen mode. Press control-alt-del to see if that breaks out of the screen.

Go to Settings to make sure you are logged onto Windows. I had a similar event on my PC, and eventually figured out that somehow I had been logged out of Windows. Believe it happened during a Windows 10 update

Load a second browser such as Chrome and see if it helps.
