Would appreciate some help. I have a netbook Windows XP that I use on the road with Microsoft Essentials and Malware bytes loaded. Every time I turn on the computer it says the firewall is off and I have to toggle it back on. Hoping to avoid this annoying problem.

If your system is telling you MSE is turned off, open it to see if it really says it's turned off. My system has that problem on rare occasion - MSE is up and running fine yet it's reported as being turned off.
I believe XP can get confused at times if you've used some other firewall software in the past. Sometimes in removing the old software, a few pieces of it can get left behind which can cause some detection issues similar to what you're reporting. Bill ![]() |

Here's a link to fix it.
How can I turn on or turn off the firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later versions? I hope this helps.

My XP machine shows the firewall turned off on startup. But by the time I get to the settings for it, it turns on. I suggest to wait a half minute then go check to be sure it has turned on.

Thanks for the responses. I'll just be more patient and wait for it to toggle back on.
