Will improve the computer's operational speed, but not internet download speed. Worth doing, though.

Agree. Fix the original problem (internet speed) and then proceed to the memory upgrade if you think it is needed. Unless your normal processing is slow this is not a problem.

I agree that internet speed is the greatest defining factor in speed but the memory and processor speed will help significately. A PC works best when resources are available to it like memory. Also cleaning the PC from swap files and performing a defrag would help speed.

My son bought a computer many years ago with 1 GB of memeory. I tried to use it and it was painfully slow. An upgrade to 6 GB was performed and a techie friend cleaned some junk off his PC and now it is much faster without an internet speed upgrade.

Had a computer repair person come and clean up the computer. He put several free programs on for scanning for viruses, malware, defrag, etc. He said it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade speed. (Didn't increase memory). I just called Centurylink and they do not offer any faster service in my area of the Villages (Piedmont). Bummer!

Default A comparsion of Speed

I am considering a Verizon Jet Pak portable 4g modem with my new data plans.

Can anyone give me some real life speeds, upload and download of all the different carriers.

I have been at some of my friends homes and the internet speed seems pathetic.

Thanks
