Can anyone explain to me why our government can't stop data brokers from selling
our personal data? It causes more hardships today in our society both young and old. From what I been reading, EVERYONE'S personal info is out there on the dark net. How safe do you feel you well be hacked any day now? |

I’m not at all concerned with being hacked. Those that can do such a thing have no interest in me and there is little I can do to stop them if they tried. I’m more concerned with identity theft so I have done what I can to prevent it and if that fails, to notice it quickly. Why can’t the govt stop the selling of data? Because we don’t have a law like the Europeans do. Because we have to balance restrictions by the govt against our freedom of speech and ability to conduct business. And because those who would abide by any law or restrictions are not the ones we need to worry about anyway.

You can use a data removal service such as Optery to reduce your exposure by opting out and automatically removing your info on data broker and people search web sites.
It will not remove your information from other types of sites like blogs, news sites, discussion boards, wiki sites, photo sites, legal records sites, or social media sites like LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Facebook. The reason that there is no legislation to control the sale of personal data is the Government doesn't want to.
There are many lobbyists for the collection and sale of data but virtually no pro consumer lobbyists for the protection of data. |
