Default ebook on Mac and Nook?

I want to buy my first ebook. I have a Mac and a Nook. Can I have the book on both devices? Do I need to buy the book from a certain vendor to make this easy?

I also have a Nook. Also have an iPad and iPhone. I usually buy my books at Bookbub.com. They send suggestions each day. Some are free some a couple dollars. Of course, you can always buy from Barnes and Noble. I have the Barnes and Noble App (also Kindle App) on my iPad and IPhone. When I download a book, I can read on any devise I want. My husband usually reads on the Nook. I prefer reading on my iPad. Sometimes, if I am away and don't want to carry my Nook with me, I read on my iPhone. Devise will pick up whereever you are in book.
