Default Apple iPhone Security Update

Apple just released a new update with two significant security flaws patched. I suggest updating if not automatic and you own an Apple iPhone

Version 18.1.1

What device model are you trying to update? Do you have an obsolete / no longer supported device? They won't update those. Look at the list here:

Obtaining service for your Apple product after an expired warranty - Apple Support

Are you using Apple Beta System?

The system won't automatically update to 18 if you are.

You need to manually select iOS 18.

I believe the current Beta is 18.2B

I recently updated my iPhone and am regretting it. Way too many changes to the interface and they put a bunch of apps on my phone I didn’t want and had to delete. And since the update, they began sending me notifications my cloud storage is full and want me to pay a monthly fee for more storage. Why can’t they just update the security flaws without all the other garbage?

Well, good for you. Perhaps you update your phone frequently and get the changes in small and relatively unnoticeable amounts over time. I haven’t updated my device for over three years. Unfortunately, I was forced to update it when I returned the Comcast modem and replaced it with my own. To activate the new modem I had to download the Xfinity app, which wouldn’t load onto my phone without updating the O/S. When you jump up several releases of operating systems the changes are many and significant. It almost felt like I had to learn how to use a new phone. And I really don’t like having apps loaded on my phone that I never requested or want to have. Just more third parties tracking my data.

There's a clue.

iOS updates do not add any 3rd party apps to your phone and iOS gives you the option (the 1st time you open an App), to prevent the App from tracking your data. It's a requirement for any App available in the App store.

Most experts advise updates as they become available. Wow, 3 years………..

I always keep ours updated but this time I noticed it made some changes to a few things… Photos for example has change the way it works a bit.

It’s stupid not to keep your phone and computer up to date. You are putting your devices at much greater risk of being hacked and you definitely don’t want that. Worried about being “tracked” well lots of things are already tracking you including your car! Unless you are in the Witness Protection Program don’t worry about it.
