Default Email Access

I have a home in TV. We frequent our home about every other month or so throughout the year as I still own my own business up north. I would like to have access to my business email on a daily or as needed basis when at TV. There is a lot of business emails each day I need to check and respond back to. We only have regular cable here at TV and I do not want to subscribe to a monthly internet access for the home here in TV. Could someone suggest a method wherein I could access my Comcast Business Class account I have here up North when I am in the villages without having to travel to the Savannah Center? I am thinking maybe a laptop with some sort of direct internet card or plug in drive, then I could use it when on the road even up north. What is the most economical configuartion do achieve this? I am not opposed to buyng a laptop, although I currently do not have one. Any and all recommendations and suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated.

Email can be sent to your cell phone.
You can get an internet wireless access card for you laptop.
You might look at clear.com. I never used but they might be a low cost alternatiove.

Hi TCLaD,

I love being able to check my email on my cellphone, but sure don't like responding from it (unless the response is short). Sounds like a laptop with a wireless card would suit your needs perfectly.

If all you need the laptop for is email and internet, you won't need a top of the line machine. A basic, inexpensive model and a good wireless card should work great.

I know on my iPhone I can check my work, home (cox.net), Gmail, and yahoo email without any issues whatsoever. If you have a smartphone you should contact your cellphone vendor to see if they can set it up for you.

The android phone is the way to go. Access to all your email and easy to reply with email that is voice activated. Just speak into the phone and the text appears, it may be missing some punctuation but it is easy to edit.

You can buy a lap top that has WiFi access and then you can access the internet through a connection at any of the regional rec centers. The internet connection is free so you won't be hit with monthly connection charges or air time.

Cool

If you already have a laptop, you could get the VirginMobileUSA MiFi unit at Walmart or Bestbuy. This unit is a WiFi hotspot and will let you connect up to 5 computers to the internet. The unit is a little expensive (~$150), but there is no contract and you only pay for the months you need it. I believe unlimited access is about $40.00/month. This will give you internet access wherever you are... It uses the Sprint network. I have one and it works great in The Villages...

These same units are available from Sprint and Verizon, but you have to sign a 2 year contract. I recommend the VirginMobileUSA device.

Just another option....

We have the Sprint unit. It was free from Sprint with a 2 year contract at $59.95/mo.

We use it in TV, Norcal and parts in between. Nearly always have wifi access with it no matter where you are located that is within range of a Sprint cell tower.

My Kindle3 has WiFi and 3G built in, so it is easy enough to check email(mobile versions). But...no color picture and kind of slow.
Personally, I'd be looking at a NetBook rather than a laptop.
