IPAD at 30,000 feet??
In the apple description of the IPAD2 says it will operate up to 10,000 feet, some commercial flights are at 30,000 and above, what happens to the IPAD at these altitudes?

Hi Springfield,
Are you sure that it doesn't say you can use it above 10,000 feet? Most airlines make you turn off devices for takeoff, so during a flight you would not be able to operate it below 10,000 feet. Just guessing. |

Commercial flights are pressurized, so you're never anywhere close to 10,000 feet, in terms of atmospheric pressure. I've used my iPad many times at cruising altitude..
Not to worry.... |

At 10,000 feet, approved electronic devices can be turned on. All electronics off during take off and landing. Sometimes you'll hear the announcement as "we've reached 10,000 feet, you are now free to use approved electronic devices".

At 10,000 feet on a mountain it's hard to breathe and the air pressure is thin. In an airplane it is pressurized to be close to gound level so everything, including us, will work properly.

Do you all power your ipads down completely for take off and landing or put it in airplane mode? I've been putting mine in airplane mode. Once they said power down completely.

As they instruct by the FAA, you're suppose to power off all electronic devices for take-off and landing. At 10,000 feet you can use non-transmitting devices. The Airplane Mode turns off the transmitting radios, Cell radio (2G, 3G), WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. Although it's only a receiver, I think the GPS is also disabled.
