Anyone else having a similar problem? Soon after downloading latest operating system update from Apple on my wife's I Pad we have noticed that battery runs down very fast. A full charge would formerly last for days, now she is lucky if it lasts a full day. It connects to internet only via Wi-Fi connection in our home. It is not connected to mobile network and rarely leaves our home. The cover supposedly shuts the I-Pad down when it is closed.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? |

Often times, you get apps running that are acquiring satellite data or your bluetooth receiver might be active. Because the iPad is never really turned off (it just goes to sleep) apps can remaining running, in the background, after you think you've closed them out.
Here's my first recommendation: Reboot the iPad by holding the home key and power button, until the white apple appears on the screen. This might take as long as 10 seconds, so be patient. You will not loose any data by doing this. Try to determine if your battery life is any better. |

There are some apps that run all the time and can drain your battery.
Double click the Home button on the IPad. Icons for all of the apps that you recently used will appear across the bottom of the screen. These apps are still running in the background and using up battery life.Just click on the minus button to delete the icon. You are NOT deleting the app, just the icon. I have similar problems, however, I shut my IPAD down when I'm finished using it and I still only get a few hours out of it. I am wondering if it is like other electronic gadgets (like your Laptop) where the battery eventually won't hold a charge and needs to be replaced. Can you replace the battery on an IPAD?

I read that you get the iPad replaced - possibly a reburbished one. It would be worth asking the Apple store for clarification. |

Not sure of the ages of your iPads, but if the battery is going dead in a few hours, there is something wrong with it. I have an original iPad and the battery is as good today as it was 4 years ago, when I bought it. I have 3 iPads and no battery issues with any of them...
As far as shutting down...unless you are holding the power button until the red slider appears, you are only putting it to sleep and it continues to monitor email, iMessages, etc. i.e. it still consumes battery power. If your iPad a year or less old, I would take it back to the Apple Store and let them look at it. If you truly have a defective battery, they may replace your iPad for free. It's a short drive and you might end up with a new iPad out of the deal. |

Update. Problem got worse. Fully charged in morning, not used all day and then battery was totally discharged. Tried all of the suggestions and then contacted AppleCare. Despite fact that I Pad was out of warranty it was still only a year and a half since purchase and it seemed to me that either battery had gone bad or there was a problem when we downloaded the latest IOS update. Senior Tech Rep from Apple had me connect it to my PC and ITunes. Backed everything up to cloud and then restored I-Pad to original factory settings. Left it on charge overnight and disconnected it from charger this morning. It was 100% charged. This evening I turned it on and it was still 100% charged. Called AppleCare back this evening as was the original plan and stated I-Pad was now working properly. Conclusion was there was no battery problem to begin with, but there was a problem that occurred during the update download. I recall that the update did not run smoothly as there were several broken connections and what seemed to be a very long time to download with problems staying connected to Apple's servers. Despite fact that I Pad was out of warranty, I did receive excellent service from their Tech reps. They did state that there were no known battery issues with latest update, but that it was no doubt, caused by problems attempting to download the update. So for now it's working fine, battery is holding a charge and wife now has her I Pad back so she can resume playing games on it. Thought folks who had similar problem and or offered suggestions might like to have this update. Thanks for all who responded to my original post.

When you get all the icons across the screen, hold down on any one of them until you see the minus sign in the corner. Then just click on each minus sign. Dont click on the icon or it will open the app. You have to hold down on the icon until you see the minus sign. |
