ipaq won't syncronize with laptop

My HP IPAQ refuses ti syn with my Compaq laptop, have tried al help on it, it says 'connected, but does not sync, leaves no choiices that work in menus, very frustratting litte brat. jaime

My older model 3830 need a 'soft reset' when that happens.
